Electric or Hybrid car that can pull a loaded double trailer?

Please do you have any experience or recommendations for an electric or hybrid, 4x4-type car, that can pull a double trailer with two large horses (one 16hh ISH, one 15.2hh heavy cob)?

I would love to be able to get out and do more, so would like to buy a trailer, but my current car simply wouldn't cope. Ideally I'd like something more environmentally friendly than a diesel 4x4, as most of my driving is around town.

I've tried asking Google, but the 'recommended' cars are £80,000+ Range Rover types that I can't afford. Any ideas?

I've been looking for one to pull my 1.8 tonne caravan. Closest I can find is the Mitsubishi PHEV but this can only tow a maximum of 1.5 tonnes.
It also on runs for 20 miles on electric only. I'm sticking to diesel until it becomes penal!
Also - did you pass your driving test before January 1997, or have you taken a B+E towing test? The current towing limits are much lower than they used to be.

I passed my test in 1996, so don't need to take a test, but will probably have a couple of lessons before I try to tow the horses. This is an aim for over the next year, I'm not in any rush!

We were thinking of changing to an electric/hybrid vehicle last year but couldn’t find anything (that wasn’t stupid money) that could tow a decent amount - and we only tow one horse. We decided the most environmentally friendly option was to keep our current diesel going and try to cycle whenever possible so keeping the car for trips we couldn’t do otherwise, including towing. If you do manage to find something please let us know as lots of people are hoping to find the same kind of thing

The other thing to bear in mind is that the pollution produced and the energy consumed in making a vehicle is less than that vehicle will produce in it's lifetime - even if it's driven for half a million miles.
Buy a used diesel & keep it well maintained. They are not the devil vehicles they are being made out to be.

I think if you buy quality and carefully secondhand, being sure you pick a diesel 4x4 that will tow the load you're asking - and then look after it, the vehicle will retain its value as less vehicles remain on the road capable of towing a heavily loaded trailer. Might pay you to look at a small electric/hybrid for running about and save the 4x4 just for towing. My friend has one they only tow with, it's pretty much permanently hitched to the trailer which makes life easier, but is over 20 years old and immaculate, she keeps getting random people ask to buy it if it is ever sold.

2 horses in a trailer will be close to 2.5t I'm sure. I don't think that there are any standard electric or hybrid cars that will be capable of towing that practically or even legally. Some commercial vehicles might, but your battery would be drained very quickly for full electric. I think for the moment you are limited to 4x4s for that kind of work. As others have mentioned why not switch to electric or even a bike for your day-to-day driving and an older 4x4 for the horses

MORE - it takes more energy and pollution to make a new car than it will ever consume/produce in it’s lifetime! Bloody phone 📱
