What do you pay for turning out, rug changes etc

Due to a bit of a change in circumstances I think I might need some help this winter either am or pm. I think I would only need if in the morning change rugs and put out and if in the evening feed, change rugs, get in. I could do the mucking out whichever end of the day I do.

What do you pay for this if you’re at livery? I’m not on a yard but there is someone who lives literally next door who may be interested so similar situation.

Does anyway have or is a freelance groom? I’m thinking they would prefer a bit more work to make it worthwhile visiting? Any ideas of charges?

I’m trying to get a plan together before the winter!

DD’s horse is on an assisted DIY yard - there are two freelance grooms who are pretty much full time there. They charge £2 for turn out/bring in plus £1 for rug change (they prefer the horses to be in turnout rugs overnight so they don’t have to change). £10 per day for full care. It’s worth their while as there are a lot of horses there so they’re not travelling a lot between jobs

My gelding was sold in June, but the livery yard prices were very reasonable. Morning feeds were free all week, turnout is free Mon -Fri, but the yard charges £1 for weekend & Bank Holiday turnout, £1 for bringing in (all week) and 50 pence for a rug change, turnout rugs on overnight so horses can go straight out. Full clip in the autumn is £40, trace or blanket clip £20. Small yard, if the yard had more horses the owner would charge more.

That is very reasonable @carreterra!! I think about £2 generally and most don’t want to change the rug, depends on how DIY you are....

We have a freelance groom on a regular basis, who charges £10/hour. she does literally anything we want, including exercising our horses, mucking out and all the basics. It's far easier for us to work on an hourly rate rather than a "by job" rate.

Just to add, we're not on a livery yard, we're a private home with a lot of horses.

I do morning feeds as part of my diy tarrif Mon-Fri and turn out. I change 50p for rug on or off. I’ll chuck on a fly mask/muzzle. If I turn out at weekend I change £1.
