Hi everyone. So I have had the opportunity to take on a rescue pony. I love her so much but havent been able to ride her for a week due to an infection in her eyes from flies. Been treating it and has got better, put fly mask on and the second day she got it off in the field and scratched all her head.
Also when hacking she does a lot of head tossing, on the roads not too bad but in the fields shes bad, she has a nose net on.
Any suggestions please? Do I buy pollenex? Ive heard vasaline is good around the nostrels

You could try a Snuggy Hoods one? They stay on a bit better I believe. A friend of mine puts it on underneath the bridle (it’s Lycra) and no problems since...

My horse has terrible hay fever and is allergic to straw and hay! I give him antihistamines every day and increase the dose slightly if the pollen count is very high or we are hacking on grass/near hedgerows. He only gets haylage and soaked feed with no chaff.

I've tried supplements with no effect, and he hated the nose net. The only thing that's worked is antihistamines.

He also used to head toss in a bridle that had a drop nose band. I've since invested in a custom Fairfax bridle and there seems to be no more discomfort in his nose 🤞🏼

The only fly spray I’ve found that really works is the Phaser one. You can sponge it round their face if they don’t like their face being sprayed

I second the recommendation for Phaser. I use the spray and ponio got used to the smell very quickly. Seems to keep the flies at a manageable level and she lives out.
