WWYD - Person at the yard showing symptoms of CV but refuses to self isolate

I'm DIY on a yard, taking all reasonable precautions and visiting as little as possible. Another owner with her horses stabled within 20 feet of mine is coughing, dry persistent cough. She's wearing a mask from B+Q and gloves. She's been challenged by other owners and advised by a nurse on the yard that with the cough she should be self isolating. She's refusing, she said she's taking all precautions necessary because she has the mask and gloves. We touch the same gates, taps, doors etc. Yard owner has shared govt advice and says it's up to us to decide the right thing to do for ourselves.

So... WWYD?

Yard Owner needs to TELL her not to come to the yard.
One of my liveries had to quarantine, so I did her pony for her, no charge, for two weeks.

The YO needs to step in here and tell her she cannot come to the yard for two weeks. Tell the YO that you have all decided that the right thing for all of you to do is to stop paying livery fees until the YO acts as a YO. See how she likes that for individual choice.

I've gone back to the yard owner but he says it's not his job to police people's behaviour. I'd move if it was possible but not even able to look at other yards at the moment. I just can't believe somebody can be so selfish.

YO needs to grow a backbone. Point out to her that she'll have a bigger problem if you all end up sick and unable to look after their horses

Your yard owner sounds really irresponsible, as does the other livery. I’d go mad if they were on my yard. Is there anyway of turning your horse away in the field throughout the lockdown? So you don’t have to have as much contact? And definitely move when you can.

Ariela · 19/04/2020 22:59

She needs to stop coming to the yard, and the remainder of you to do her horse for her on a rota till she is symptom free for 7 days.

She could have hay fever - have you tried talking to her and asking her? Tree pollen is really bad this year plus dealing with hay and straw can make lots of people cough and it would be ridiculous if everyone with hay fever self-isolated as they wouldn’t be able to leave the house for months

She admitted she believed she had CV symptoms but wasn't prepared to self isolate. Several other liveries volunteered to see to her horse free of charge to avoid any risk. The 7 days have passed now, she's a selfish, nasty piece of work. I have no doubt that if another livery starts to show symptoms she'd be the first to insist they stopped visiting the yard. This "lady" is very much a mumsnet style CF.
