Borrow my doggy for horses?!

Does such a thing exist? I’m an experienced rider but no horse currently. Would love to find someone locally who needs some help riding out, I’m happy to pitch in with jobs in return.
Is there a website for this? Or are tackshops etc best bet for adverts?
Thanks!

I'm part of a local Facebook horse riders group that has lots of ads like this - both people advertising for horses and riders.

Tack shops and FB are usually the places to find some form of loan type arrangement.

Didn’t even think of fb! Great, thank you Smile

You can also try preloved and gumtree, people seem to advertise for shares on there as well as FB mentioned above. You can put up a wanted ad if nothing currently on there meets requirements - mention your experience and if you are prepared to make a financial contribution as well as take on some stable duties in exchange for rides?

FB local riders websites. I found one of my ladies who helps out by answering her advert on a local Happy Hackers page there - she was looking for a pony for her daughter to ride in exchange for help with stable duties. She's been brilliant. Both her children now ride here, and I have competent and knowledgeable back up for when I am away at work. My other lady answered my ad on the same FB page for someone to come and ride my horse.

If you are knowledgeable, competent, reliable and have some time during the week rather than only wanting to ride at weekends people will bite your hand off. Some of them will also ask for a financial contribution. It's up to you whether you want to pay to ride someone else's horse - horses do cost money to keep. But I work on the understanding that they are my horses, I pay for them, and my helpers can ride any time at all that I am not using them as long as we all pull together to make sure someone looks after them each day. We are all happy with this set up.

i currently have a similar set up with a friend of a friend who needed her (slightly fizzy) horse exercised. i do the two nights she works late. bring him in, groom, ride and muck out his field. No money changes hands - she says I am doing her a favour as she was struggling these nights and in general can't exercise him as much as she likes. I am delighted to have horse to ride and spend time with. She originally said I didn't need to do any yard jobs, I could just ride if I wanted but I believe in helping out when getting the pleasure of riding and I actually do enjoy it!

She is also happy for me to ride/help out any other nights I just text her if I have other free time. She is so relaxed and happy for me to suit myself. Works well for us hopefully you could find a similar arrangement. do you have a circle of "horsey" friends?
