Adult Riding Hat recommendations

Looking for a new hat, I don't get to ride too often but about to go on a riding weekend and my old i've had for 7 years.
Nothing silly expensive, but obviously up to a decent standard and comfort level.
Looking on Robinsons website and I can't really make a decision.
Any good ones you recommend for a size 59?
Tia

You need to go to a shop really and try them on. My dd has an odd shaped head (not visible!) and one brand fitted her better than another.

I have a Champion one, wasn't madly expensive.

I have a Charles Owen one it is comfortable and light but I had it fitted. It was a cheaper one, some of them can be quite expensive now.

I was planning a trip to Robbies but there does seem to be a better choice online with Amazon etc. Apparently my current one (harry hall) doesn't fit with current guidelines hence the update. my head is biggish and my hair v thick so i guess a fitting session is wise

I bought one last week from Discount Equestrian online. It's a Gatehouse (which I'd never heard of before) and it's a lovely hat for the price!

Whatever fits so well you can hang upside down without the strap done up without it budging.

There are a few brands I know tend to fit me but last time I bought one I still tried eight of the same size and brand before I found the one that was the perfect shape.

Champion vent air scull cap
That and the gatehouse hs1 are the only ones that fit my weird head. Everything else pinches

You really ought to go to a shop with a decent selection and try a load on. I used to have a lovely Charles Owen and when I needed to replace it I tried on exactly the same make and model only to find it wasn't comfortable at all. Lots of hat manufacturers do a budget hat. Eg with Champion they do a junior hat which is up to all the safety standards but has a black nylon strap instead of a flesh coloured leather one. The more expensive hats have air vents, removable washable sweat bands and all sort going on that make them more expensive. But they all make a cheaper model without the whistles and bells and the only difference between them is whether they are comfy and you can't tell that from asking or buying online.

I have a big head and big hair.

Champion and Kep work for me but gatehouse do not!

Go to a shop and try them on - I have a very oval head and v few fit me...... but everyone has slightly diff shaped heads and diff hats fit diff head shapes.....

Asdf12345 · 13/11/2018 20:12

I should be only way I have been able to get perfect fit has been taking close to just right hats and adding slithers of neoprene inside the lining.

Ariela · 13/11/2018 20:22

Definitely go to a shop that has a qualified hat fitter. Keep trying them on till you find one, visit more than 1 shop if you have to. Daughter fits Gatehouse best, I fit Champion.
Don't buy online and guess, you've only got one head.

Orlandointhewilderness · 13/11/2018 20:32

you need to try them - different hats fit different shape heads. i have a HS1 which is brill.
