Seedy toe/ white line disease

Pony is on box rest for tendon injury and she's really wet which is what I suspect has now caused her to get white line disease. Farrier has dug it all out and recommended I stand each for in strong iodine every day for 5 minutes. Given that she won't even walk through a puddle normally, this is unrealistic. So I'm poulticing each foot with cotton wool soaked in iodine held on with a nappy and hoof boots every day instead. Hoping it works.
Has anyone got any experience and hopefully positive stories?

We used to use a bleach solution but I don't think it's the in thing any more.

Would she tolerate a hoof soaking boot filled with iodine? Or even tie her up short and cover the eye on that side while you lift her foot into the bucket? I'd be worried that using cotton wool isn't getting everything soaked enough.

Hemp bedding (equisorb, megasorb) is really good for wet boxes. It'll draw uring down into it and leave the top much dryer than straw of shavings.

Also my American friend swears by some sort of mastitis treatment cream for cows to treat thrush/white line disease in horses. I can't remember the name but I'll get in touch with her and report back.

She's on wood pellets currently and it's moving yards soon to a stable that doesn't have concrete under the rubber matting so I'm hoping liquid can drain better.
She's fine with the hoof boots and the cotton wool is fully soaked veggie being applied to the hoof, also I spray the hoof first to ensure it touches everything. Then the nappy holds the cotton wool in place and hoof boot on top. Her entire hoof is brown/ orange from the iodine so I'm guessing it is getting everywhere. I'm also 25 weeks pregnant so mobility is limited!!

She can't stand the feeling of her hoof being in liquid so covering her eye won't help sadly. I can't risk getting knocked over by upsetting her either.
The cream sounds interesting.... willing too try anything!

If you could get her to keep a soaking boot on, then cleantrax is supposed to be THE best thing for hoof infections. Failing that, white lightening gel. Good lick

QuestionableMouse · 17/10/2018 15:38

Cleantrax is great. Friend uses something called Tomorrow dry cow treatment which is www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/bivi-tomorrow-cephaperin-benzathine-dry-cow-mastitis-treatment

Not sure it helps much because I don't know if you can get it in the UK, sorry. Looks like there is some on eBay but I've no idea of the regs for buying it.

Please don’t buy the above product or try to use dry cow treatments. They contain antibiotics and should only be able to be obtained on a prescription. It is against the law for someone to supply them to you with you having a script and in this day and age we all need to be responsible for antibiotic usage

Cariadxx · 18/10/2018 10:50

No there's no point in using anything anti bacterial as it's a fungal infection so totally useless

Cleantrac doesn’t have antibiotics in and is particularly good for deep seated fungal infections , it kills bacteria as well but that’s not the same as being an antibiotic
It’s really good stuff

My daughters pony has just developed a really bad thrush infection - trainer is poultice get it in iodine mixed into suger and packed into hoof. The sugar Holds the iodine onto the hoof, into then held on with vet wrap. Gather it's a v old fashioned remedy, but farrier thought it was a good idea.
