...i get to 9 stone?

Im in love with him! Im too heavy right now. Is it realistic? He is a cob, so strong. I am 5'7"

The rule of thumb is the rider and tack shouldn't exceed 20% of the horse's body weight. So if you have a weight tape you can work it out.

But if he's a reasonably solid/chunky 13hh you should be OK. I'm a bit shorter and slightly lighter than you and I hop up on the kids ponies from about 12hh occasionally, based on that you should be OK, albeit you might look/feel too tall for him - unless he takes up the leg very well you might feel a bit like your knees are on the ground!

A lot does depend on whether you are an experienced rider or a novice and if you are planning on riding him occasionally or regularly and in hard work. Although I have an occasional sit on small ponies it's only for some light schooling or roadwork, I wouldn't jump them or do fast work on rough ground. My regular ride is 14hh...

I wont be jumping! I will just be hacking, hour max...sometimes school work. Probably twice a week on average. 9 stone is target weight. I am a way off yet. But its a good incentive! Smile

Ill get a weight tape

Ha ha. I'm using the same incentive. I'm 19% of my 14.2's bodyweight but trying to lose some so I can do a bit more than short hacks bareback! Mind you at 5'7 9 stone is pretty slim isn't it? You might find he can carry a bit more than that if he's a stocky cob.
