Would any horse owners agree to this?

I started riding when I was little (my Mum bred welsh ponies) and competed my own regularly until going to university.

Since then I have ridden other people’s horses on a variety of arrangements from sharing, to loaning, to schooling and exercising for free. At one time I was riding three on one yard and two on another! I was also lucky enough to be riding and competing two lovely horses full time for a owner who would take me out in their box.

I then moved and had been riding a horse locally before becoming pregnant but I think he’s now having a holiday. I’ve now got a new baby and am really keen to ride again and happy to pay for lessons - but need a horse to ride! One reason I’m so keen is I think it would really help with anxiety I’m having because I always found when at the yard I immediately relaxed!

I can’t share really just yet as baby clingy and needs feeding every hour or two, so I’d really need to get tacked up and on immediately and with DH there to look after baby while I’m riding.

Do you think any horse owners would be happy for someone to borrow their horse for lessons with an instructor (hopefully for the benefit of the horse too!) without being a proper sharer? When I was looking to share I popped something online and had so much response, but this seems cheekier somehow!

I have had schoolmaster lessons at Talland but too far to go with baby.

No harm in asking.

Is there not a riding school or centre somewhere though as this is exactly what they would do. Pay for lesson, ride and leave.

If I knew the person and felt they were competant and the instructor Id probably say yes; its struggle to ride every day when you work full time. I think I would want us both to have the same instructor and ensure that we had the same objectives and riding styles.
Alternatively is there not a Talland equivalent near to your? This surely is the best solution for you.

Could you not have a private lesson at a riding school?

Jonbb · 25/07/2018 13:50

I would. Where are you based?

Jonbb · 25/07/2018 13:52

Cornwall I guess, we are 5 hours away Sad

Worth just checking with the instructor's insurance and what the owner's liability would be if you came off and hurt yourself. This might not bother you, but it might if you fell off and hurt yourself, particularly now you have a baby. Sorry - it's a lovely idea and I hope you find something.

Just a thought I might believe Pammy Hutton or Pippa Hutton does a regular clinic in Cornwall. I guess it’s at a stables/livery yard why don’t you contact Talland and find out and then speak to the yard it’s held and see if they can help.

I'm NE so not in your area but I've got some surgery coming up and would jump at the chance of having someone ride my boy while I'm recuperating!

Ps especially someone experienced in Welshies!
