I'm buying a lorry - any tips?

I can drive up to a 7.5 tonne.

Can't decide what to buy!

I will be showing my youngster - possibly with my friend and her yearling too.

I have a specific breed - so shows are far apart and will mainly mean overnight stays.

What features have you found useful...or a waste of time/money?

All comments gratefully received!

Equitrek seem to be slated recently on a lot of the FB groups, I am not very knowledgeable about lorry’s. I lust after the big 200k ones that I see around.
I am just plucking up courage to buy an Ifor Williams trailer 😂

I am really excited about having a lorry built. Grin I've been ringing around a few companies and depending on the age of the chassis, I'll be able to get between a 4.5 -6.5T "van style" lorry with a low ramp and a small living.

Because the weight of the chassis + engine is a lot lighter, the payload is about the same as most 7.5T. One of the 6.5T I've looked at has a huge payload of nearly 3T! Shock

I will have a look at Boss - thankyou to PP and thanks @Cobrider for the info about Equitrek.

This is something I've saved hard for, so want to use a decent company.

So you buy a second hand lorry and get the conversion done exactly as you want? That sounds the best idea. So it’s about getting the right lorry base and making sure of its reliability etc first?
I would be excited too, dd2 would be going Katy Price pink...

A 3t payload is bloody fantastic! Who makes those?

Find the company you want to do the conversion first before buying a chassis, as they come in different wheelbases and the company will have made all its weight calculations on a specific model and wheelbase. They should have a lot of contacts for second hand chassis so they may be able to help you find one.

If you are clever, you can squish a decent living in a 5t, we have bed in Luton , cooker, fridge, cupboards, oven, table and bench seats that make second bed, sink etc. I didn’t put a bathroom in as using those little showers is horrid and we use venue showers or just strip wash. We have an inside cupboard below horses head area with a portaloo in so once we arrive I pull that out and we use back of Lorry as a loo for night time use.i had my horse bit made bit shorter as never take more than 15 h beast, outside tack lockers below horses head.
Equitrek etc waste lots of space by living being at the back, but they have to do that as make so long that there would be too much weight behind rear axle to have horses weight there.

@Booboostwo. I'll look back through and see if I can find it - I did wonder if they had scrimped on some essential steelwork in order to get the payload that high, though !

Peper Harrow ones have payloads of "2.5T +"
