Selling your horse/pony stories

We’ve just sold our lovely pony to an amazing family who turned up when they said they would and didn’t quibble on the price. They even offered to friend us on FB so we could see how our pony was getting on.

However, there were so many other odd people who called, i’m sure I can’t be the only person who’s been astounded at the CFs out there.

One man asked if I thought the pony would be suitable for his children, we had a bit of an e-mail conversation ending in him asking if I could arrange a vetting for the pony, throw in the brand new saddle for a pittance and could I deliver the pony to X location some 150+ miles away. Oh and he wasn’t bothered about his children trying the pony out first! Needless to say I didn’t bother replying to his last message.

Others tried to barter me significantly down on price before they’d even booked to come and see the pony. Their rationale being they lived a long way away, would have to pay to come and visit and transporte the pony home plus buy a saddle! So...... look at a pony closer to home?? Another really liked the pony and could offer of an amazing home but it was out of their price range so would I take £x for it. No! We had an amazing pony priced very fairly, hence she went within 2 weeks to the first person that viewed it. Who also travelled a significant distance to come and try it out.

Anyone got any other stories?

Oh. My. God.
So many fucking idiots

Sold a mare about 10 years ago now who we did a super honest advert for. She was an absolute terror to hack in company, alone was a dream. Had several people call up asking if she would hunt Hmm

My gorgeous 17.2hh ex racehorse who sadly i had to sell due to work commitments. At the time he was 4 and while Kind, very green. Stunning horse and would have been a dream with work (and the lady who bought him put in the work and he is a total star) but Jesus wept so many idiots, people calling up looking for their 11 year olds who’d only ever ridden in a riding school, teenage dreamers you name it I had it...

Worked for a dealer when I was at uni too and I wouldn’t know where to start with the idiots but a highlight being a stunning LW hunter who was being sold with a HOYS ride, had his foxhunters double clears, schooled to medium, popped round a few BE100s, snaffled mouthed and could be hacked down the m25 on the buckle if you wanted, and had the serious price tag to go with that....
Someone came to try him and offered about £1500?
Confused

On the other side I went to see a 14.3h cob who was no way more than 14h and had the worst feet I've ever seen on a section d.
My latest purchase was on for £2750 after being reduced from 3k....I really liked her but max budget was £2500 so I was straight up with the seller from the start. She let me view her and we clicked. I think an honest seller would rather the horse went to the right home for £250 less
