Horses in the snow

I have two at home. Both the water butt and the piped water trough are frozen solid, so I'm carrying buckets of water up three or four times a day. Rode one this morning and turned one out for a couple of hours but they are both in now and bad weather forecast at about 3pm. How are you coping?

We have rain forecast tonight so hopefully all the snow will be gone by tomorrow

Mine has been in the last few days. Really not happy about it though

The yard is like an ice rink and where it’s been so wet the field was very rutted and has now frozen hard.

She’s game, but I most definitely am not.

All our pipes are frozen so we’re just filling up 5l bottles in the yard owners house. Fortunately the water in her bucket hasn’t frozen.

She’s as right as rain. I walked 4 miles each way this morning and am now thawing out. Our very lovely yard owner has offered to check on her tonight for me

Mine was in Thursday as the weather was so bad. But went out for 4 hours yesterday to stretch his legs before it it got worse again. He was ready to come back in.

For snowballing on the hooves, I use Stockholm tar, it's the metal of the shoes that starts it, so I put plenty on all round the shoes.

All out today. Thank god for that

Mine are going demented as we are on an hour turnout per day.

I’ve never had this before, we’ve always had unlimited turnout and they are climbing the walls

Can't ride yet but we all lunged this morning. Had to stop every few minutes to pick feet out but they were all really calm which was a relief. Grey you must all be going mad

I’ve got two native youngsters who are desperate to be out! Yard owner has never restricted turnout before but we can’t get to the fields as it’s thigh deep

I might try lunging this afternoon if all goes well.
