Pony show novice freaking out!

Right, I finally managed to pin the people down about the 'fun' pony show, and now I am freaking out!
There won't be a leader to help her, (dd is 6) because they're all taking part, so I've got to do it... but I don't know anything about horses!
There's 'smartest pony', and I don't know what level I'm aiming for... are we talking glitter and ribbons, or just brushing and a clean lead rope?!
The most helpful pony lady said she needed to wear "just a blazer and light jodhpurs" as if I have that kind of stuff just lying around!!
I don't know where to go to get the stuff, and it's for Monday, so all the Internet places are cutting it a bit fine!
Please talk soothingly to me, and tell me I won't let her down...
There's also 'best rider', and 'handy pony' which sounds like obstacles, but I think I can manage those OK. ..

OK, it is meant to be fun. Any pony clubs near you with FB pages? I'd put out a plea on them for old showing gear for a 6yo. Tell them buyer will collect. It doesn't have to be flashy. Cream/ beige jods, or yellow, just a pale colour. Polo shirt, preferably a tie if you can find one. Some sort of tweed jacket. (I'm in a rural area and this is sometimes the kind of stuff that turns up in charity shops. If you get really lucky, there may be an MNer near enough!) Jodhpur boots.

Smartest pony - needs to be well groomed. She wants to be checking the bits that many people miss. Make sure the pony has a clean tummy and elbows (make sure it doesn't try to nip you when you check this. Ponies have an odd sense of humour). If she can plait, great. if not a very well brushed mane and tail. If possible, can she clean tack? Does she know how? If not, don't worry, it is meant to be fun.

Lead standing on the pony's left (near) side. Stand to the side, by the shoulder. Try not to get in front of the pony and keep to the side to avoid being trodden on. Do not wrap the lead rope round your hand - if the pony pulls away it will break your fingers (been there, done that). Your right hand should hold the lead rein about 12 inches from the bit, your left hand takes up the slack.

Have fun Smile

Oh Bless you - I have no idea so can't really help, but am sure someone will be along to back up Gabilan soon...

I'm doing jumping on Monday for the first time in a club competition and still trying to work out what I am doing. My instructor is coming to help give encouragement and shout about my heels though, so should be ok! Hope it goes well for you both - have fun! 😊

Oh dear! Is this your pony or RS?
If it's your pony and DD is likely to want to do more of this then start buying some stuff but if this is a one off RS show and she'll have outgrown it by next year then do not spend your hard earned cash!
Ideally she should be in beige jodhs, shirt, tie, short brown boots, etc BUT you're not looking to qualify for HOYS! I would endeavour to avoid all things pink and glittery but for a first, fun show being neat and tidy should be enough. By all means if you want to upgrade her jodhs to a beige pair then get some or look in a charity shop for a tiny jacket or perhaps there's a local tack shop with a second hand section?
I bought my kids show jodhs from Aldi, boots were second hand, hats were bought for general riding anyway, cheap school shirts, tie from when we had a family wedding and a tweed jacket that was an eBay steal. In total I spent about £60 to kit two kids out in pretty decent looking show gear.
I'm amazed in this day and age of liability culture that riding schools will let parents with zero horsey knowledge lead kids.
I hope your DD has a brilliant day! I'm 33 and still have the rosette from my first riding club show when I won musical cones on Wish (the palamino pony). I didn't have any of the gear but I had the biggest smile!

Yes, it is a riding school pony. Our riding school is pretty ummm... 'traditional' when it comes to health and safety! My dd's first ride was booked as a walk out in the countryside, and when we turned up they literally handed me a pony on a rope, and that was that!
Still, she loves it, and it does wonders for her confidence.
We've got the outfit sorted , and I've watched a bunch of YouTube videos. ..what could possibly go wrong?! 😂😂
