Having second thoughts

I've booked myself a lesson tomorrow, the thing is I haven't ridden in years and am going through the menopause which makes my bones ache and drains me of energy . Typing this my legs are killing me and I am so stiff.

Am I mad to think I will be able to get on a horse and more to the point, get off again !! ? I've always loved riding and being around horses but I'm having second thoughts now .

Riding has really helped me with recovery after an accident and 2 lots of surgery. Both emotionally and physically.

It took me 3-6 months to gradually build up any core strength and stability again- but it's great now (comparatively!) and I don't think I'd have been nearly as motivated to improve without riding.

I'm more cautious now and think carefully about risks. Getting to know a lovely steady horse, wearing a body protector and taking things gradually have all helped me.

I'm pleased riding has helped you - there is something about horses that really is so therapeutic. I do need to build up my core strength - I've spent the best part of a year not doing much at all due to my injuries , which have been life changing to the point that I can't do my job any more Sad. I wish I could find a reasonably forward going horse so I can concentrate on my position etc without using all my energy just to keep it going which unfortunately riding school horses seem to need.

Having lessons on a lunge line might be good- the instructor helps keep the horse going while you mainly work on your position.

Pilates helped me to get a bit more awareness of my body and control and confidence back.
