What type of flooring do you have in your float?

I have double straight load with a hardwood floor covered with rubber matting. My mares travel well, but the boys seem to struggle keeping their balance.

I'm not sure what a float is but assume you mean a horsebox or trailer? Mine is aluminium 'planks' with thick rubber over the top. I wouldn't have a wooden floor personally.

How thick is the rubber? Mine is about 10mm, and really firm underfoot. I find it slippery myself. DP bought it for me as a surprise, and I've convinced him we need to put something else down. Now I just need to work out what..

Why not timber? Worry of it rotting and breaking? Eventually it would need to be replaced, but it is 2" thick hardwood, so should last a while.

Yes due to the worry of it rotting. It's not easy to lift screwed down thick rubber to check a wood floor as regularly as I'd want to, and I like to be able to thoroughly wash the back of the lorry out quite often without worrying about trying to dry it out. I should think the rubber is about 2" thick, the sort with the raised circles.

So the circles would help with grip? The thicker rubber sounds better for shock absorption too.

I would like to get rid of it to be honest, but DP thinks it's the best float in the world. It's taken me a while to talk him into 'updating' the floor, so it will be baby steps.

Do you think an angle load is better? Most people here seem to start out with the straight load and then move up after a couple of years.

Have found Granulistic Halpotex (sp) the very best we have come across, think it comes in liquid form and then dries- never had a problem with slipping at all.

Mine is aluminium with rubber on top too. Wooden flooring has a horrible tendancy to rot in unseeable places resulting in a hoor though the floor while travelling with horrible consequences. Wood is heavier too.
