How long before we outgrow pony? X

My daughter is 10 this yr and has a 12.2 pony. She is average height for a 10 yr old and only very slight. I'm just wondering how long she will last on her pony before she outgrows her🙈 xx

Ages! She's about right on the pony now, but if she's light she can just keep folding her legs up for another couple of years! She would probably be more limited by what the pony can do - perhaps by the time she's 12 or 13 she might want to do more than a 12.2 can do? Depends on the pony's ability and her ambition.

We sold DD's 12.2 Show Pony when DD was 12 1/2 years old. She could have kept riding her in show classes for another year but we knew she was getting tall for her. I'd say 12 or 13 given normal height growth for your DD..

Our DD was 13 in Feb and now rides 13 hand show hunter pony and 14 hand New Forest Working Hunter Pony..

Just to add that in the photo she looks the perfect size for her now!

It depends on how tall yourself and her father are and therefore how tall she is likely to be.
I'm in my 30's, but only about 5ft2 and pony is 13hh if he stands right up on his tippie-toes and acts like a stallion ;)

I think she is about the right size now, looking at her legs - she is at the point now , that she will start growing out of the pony..... How long that takes, will depend on how fast she grows...... For my son , who is just 11, and is now growing out of his 13 2 , it is happening all too fast.
The only other thing I would say is if she is wanting to do jumping , and wanting to work up the heights , she doesn't have a lot of pony infront of her.

Well if it helps, I'm 5'9 and have. 13.2 pony. He's a fatty native but even so...

She should get another couple of years. She might look a bit tall on her but she really won't be too big.

I weigh 8 stone and am about 5'3 and I regularly ride ponies of 11.2 and 12.2hh so it depends on how big your daughter is going to get. The 12.2 pony I ride is a chunkier build than yours and could carry abot 10 stone easily, wheras the 11.2 pony is a much lighter build. She has a deeper girth than yours but is very narrow chested when seen from the front. I have seen her canter carrying nine stone and trot carrying 10 stone but wouldn't expect her to do it regularly. Saying that, your daughter already looks very tall on him. As she is now, she looks like a pony of up to 14.2 would be ideal for her.

Seriously? She looks as though she'll have a year, tops. To me she looks almost too tall already but we do a lot of jumping.

I agree fortune, but I do think it depends what you want to do......my son jumps - everyone else on our yard jumps...... If it was me I would be moving her up, ...... But that size difference I think is really common in the showing world....

I rode my 12.2 until I was 16! I was about 6.5 stone at the time and 5'1. Your mare could take 8 stone quite easily, so I wouldn't worry.
