Trimmers

Can trimmers used for human hair be used on horses legs or does it need to be horse trimmers (they are very expensive).

I've got some little battery trimmers. They are proper horse ones but tbh they don't really look any different to human ones. I use them for trimming dhorse's jaw mainly as they aren't powerful enough to do his feathers/mane. His hair is very coarse though, if your horse is more TB type with soft hair on his legs you'll most probably be ok. I would just try a little bit and see, as long as you won't get upset if you ruin the trimmers!
Mind you, if you are only talking about trimmers they aren't actually that expensive, I only paid about £20 for mine at a show. It's the bigger clippers that cost the money.

Horse clippers are more hard wearing and can cope better with coarse horse hair. We bought some Lister clippers (about 280 pounds now) over 8 years ago and they are still going strong. They clip our 4 horses at least twice a year and then we keep them trimmed for showing. We have two sets of blades and get them re-sharpened every year. Huge saving over the years as I don't think cheaper ones would have lasted.

He probably finds a few coarse hairs and assumes she's been shaving her legs .
