Question about insurance for a pony ..

Hi, we have just taken a pony on full loan at our current current school and although his owner does not insure, I would be happier for peace of mind if we did cover the little chap.

My daughter is a current Gold member of the BHS which covers her for Public Liability insurance up to £10 million, plus personal accident insurance up to £10,000.

Could anyone recommend the best insurance cover for the pony himself as I don't need public liabilty - although I guess it probably comes as a package. I have been advised to get just basic cover but would be interested to hear others advice.

Could anyone help please ?

We have vets fees with nfu and it's approx 45 a month

Pet plan is cheaper but nfu are amazing if you ever need to claim

One of our ponies was lame last year, vets bill was 800

I paid 150 excess and insurance repaid not only vets feesI but also my extra expenses on hay feed and bedding while he was on box rest

We insure for vets fees only [injuries, not illness, due to pony's age] with NFU,£144 a year.We insure our other pony for similar with Scottish Equestrian and that is about £10 less than NFU.

OK I also have death cover, loss of use and liability (if pony kicks Simon)

NFU are amazingly helpful if you have to claim. They covered full livery while we had one on box rest.

I have also used NFU and had a &7k payout for vets fees and have used Stineways who have paid out a £5k claim and a £2k claim with no issues. Both were good to deal with
