Update for our injured pony

Many of you were kind enough to comment about our pony a couple of months ago, when he was found injured in the field.

It turned out to be a fractured elbow (after him having nuclear scientology) and he had surgery and plates inserted.

He's been on box rest ever since but had X-Rays yesterday, which were sent to the clinic/surgeon by our vet.

X-rays are back from the clinic. The surgeon is DELIGHTED with how the fracture is healing, he could not have been more positive about them to our own vet. He can start turnout in the New Year and has the best possible chance of a FULL recovery.

It's been a long and expensive few months and in the back of my mind is getting to the end with no money and no pony occasionally, so I am chuffed!

Great news ,I hope you came to an agreeable conclusion with your vet after the original misdiagnosis .

Thanks for remembering Floral, we didn't end up paying for any of the initial treatment, and are now only seen by our own vet in all matters relating to Dpony Smile

It's always difficult with a practice ,we had a similar issue many years ago with a misdiagnosed fracture of the frontal sinuses in my thoroughbred. Don't know how it got missed but it was a Sunday ,the oncall vet didn't want to come out I was literally twisting his arm to get him to do anything and when the senior partner came out on the Monday he couldn't have been more appalled. At the time we put it down to the oncall chap being Belgian ,strange but in our experience lots of foreign vets don't see horses as pets you treat ,they see them as meat .He was an excellent vet with household pets .

Yes, this guy seemed strangely disinterested. End of the day, our own vet, who is a partner must take responsibility for employing him in the first case though so I stuck to my guns.

Our canine vet went to University with the surgeon who operated on our pony though, I feel reassured after chatting with him that I couldn't have had somebody more qualified to have performed the operation at least Smile

That's great news, what a relief.

I'm so pleased for you all.It is horrible when they are injured and you don't know what is wrong.

Thank you all so much.

Watching DD's reaction tonight (bursting into tears of relief and joy) was reward enough. She has been incredible during this long period of box rest, and has never once complained about caring for him. He's slightly aloof in general, extremely well behaved when ridden, and very honest as a pony, but mostly gives you a look like you are slightly beneath him Smile. However, the bond between the two of them has grown and there's real (if rare!) displays of affection from him now.
