Hello All,

I know some of you are very knowledgeable re showing and I was wondering if I can please pick your brains as to how Dpony should be trimmed/pulled.

He is a 14.2 coloured cob (and the most handsome pony to have ever walked the earth, of course!). Not particularly heavy, not the heavy traditional long flowing mane and feathers type.

We have had him since September. He came to us with a traditional long mane, at least a foot long, and long forelock. His feathers are au natural but they aren't as poofy and long as you see on traditional types, more native type I would guess. He has a blanket clip.

He currently hacks for approx 1-2 hours per day with me during the week, plus 30 min dressage lesson one a week, with the odd bit of PC, jumping, intro/prelim dressage and XC thrown in. Total all rounder for myself and my son to enjoy a bit of everything on. We might want to have a dabble at local level showing.

I am not really sure what i should be doing in terms of pulling or leaving hairy… I love his mane, but it does take a lot of work to keep nice and i am thinking of shortening it. I don't want to hog him. I haven't touched his feathers as the area all around his field and the track to it are incredibly wet and muddy and vile.

Any idea what I should do with his locks?

Thank you very much for advice.

Tried to add a few pics but may not work….

He's beautiful, I haven't got a clue about feathers though Smile

He is a beauty and if you are not showing leave it. I know a friend who has a coloured cob has to decide if she wants to hog as feels she can go no further.

He is very attractive . We had an Irish draught x cob type and we hogged him it took a little bit of getting used to but after a while you just couldn't imagine him with a mane . I think the thing is with hogging is you do need to be able to keep it short or else they end up looking a bit like a rocking horse.
