Am I too old to restart riding? I'm 50 and weigh 11 bloody nanna stone, my little granddaughter is riding and we are having massive pony love. If its a stupid idea I will just carry on supporting and helping groom etc. Thanks for any feedback.

In my area there are plenty of ladies who have started riding lessons later in life. Check out the BHS website for approved riding schools in your area and give them a ring. A suitable mount and a good instructor and I'm sure you'll enjoy trying it out.Smile

You are joking, I know plenty of 14hh ponies who are carrying more than that quite happily.
You are not too old, my mum restarted riding when she was only a few years younger than you, she soon had her own horse and was doing long distance rides and all sorts. Go and have fun Smile.

I weigh more than u and ride a 15hh cob, the hard bit when you're older is that your brain remembers exactly what to do but your body sometimes refuses......! Go for it Smile

Well I weigh a stone more than you and my 15hh welsh section d carries me just fine. I restarted and bought my first horse age 40. I've never looked back and neither will you. :)

Get on with it and do as much stable stuff as you can. I am in my best ever shape when I'm riding - it's not just the rising its the dragging hay bales etc around and lifting bags of feed Grin Your dgd will love it - what a fab activity to do together Grin

Littlebigbum · 26/07/2013 21:58

Some ladies don't start riding till 50, so you will be fine

Oooh just came back to thread thanks for your encouragement, there's a really sweet 14.2 cob at my granddaughters stables. I would love a little potter on her, she is just kind and lazy-could be a good match! my daughter is getting interested in re-starting too, this could end with a loan one day......thanks all.
