Dd's riding school has become a pony club centre so we have to join The Pony Club. The riding school will be running courses and badges etc. any other advantages to being in pony club when you don't actually own a pony, ??

You get to have tonnes of fun! I used to help at a branch centre for summer camp. It was excellent.

Well, most of our olympics equestrian team came through the pony club so I think that alone is a great reason to join. DD is a member of the VWH PC and as well as teaching horsemanship, stable mangement, road safety etc there is an emphasis on encouraging a love and appreciation of the countryside, forging links with the hunt proper, teaching respect for others and your pony. It can be extremely competative (and I'm talking parents here, not just children) but on the whole is great.

Thanks for the replies. Dd is mad keen to have her own pony which I am of course resisting. There's a lot of badges and certificates the centre will be doing on horse care and management which will show her how much work is involved as well as how much fun. Pony club, here we come! Grin

we have just joined (well my kids have Grin ) - we have moved stables to do so which is sad but the girls are really keen - I think they will get loads out of it

Pony Club is pretty full on, but well worth it if the kid's really into her riding. You have to get up at sparrow's fart to scrub off the mud. You have to make sure kid is also scrubbed up (and tack ditto), and find her hairnet from last time. You also have to transport pony and said kid (and reluctant little brother). Never, ever go to a rally without a flask of coffee as you will be gasping by the time you get there (and in my case, make sure you also have fags applenty). You then get to sit around in the cold for a couple of hours, and then take them home, but PC (especially camp) has been brilliant for GD's riding. £7.50 for the rally, £40 to hire a trailer, and a couple of hours on the day to fetch and return it, but what else would I do with my time?
