Not for me, I hate it. I also think that people who cover their horses in bling (esp pink - sorry) are living out a pony princess fantasy and generally have no clue about the actual needs of their horse. I'm not implying that that is you btw, just my personal prejudice coming out.

Loshad · 25/08/2012 13:10

sorry, agree with callisto, again my own personal prejudice.

Alameda · 25/08/2012 14:39

ugh no

although I got a sparkly browband as a joke once, to horrify my sharer, otherwise isn't such stuff pretty universally reviled?

Alameda · 25/08/2012 14:40

but I did dye the pony pink so am possibly guilty of more than a little hypocrisy

Callisto · 25/08/2012 17:04

But you're legendary on MN for the Pink Pony Incident. It was such an inspired barmy thing to do that you're forgiven for any hint of blingyness. Grin

Alameda · 25/08/2012 17:06

haha thanks

I got home from my hols to find someone had painted a union flag on him, in honour of the olympics and so on - there are some things you just won't live down aren't there?

CMOTDibbler · 25/08/2012 17:15

I really don't do the bling or pink, but some of the girls on our yard are accessorised to the max, and it is like My Little Pony.
But mines pissed off enough when made to look clean and neat plaited up as it is.

Pixel · 25/08/2012 17:53

I think a browband or something can look quite nice on the right sort of animal as long as it's not overdone, though it's not something we go for as big hairly cobs can't really do bling! (or shouldn't anyway IMO). My sister has a very pretty golden dun and he has some discreet diamond studs down the side of his black headcollar which suits him and is bling enough for us. Wouldn't team it with pink/purple but perhaps we are just boring Grin.

Callisto · 25/08/2012 18:18

I love the Union Jack idea!

Not really bling, but I love to see the heavy horses at shows all plaited and be-ribboned. They just look amazing.

Alameda · 25/08/2012 18:20

oh please look at trailer for our film, it has heavy horses in - (director was Hmm that a single horse couldn't just plough through the concrete soil, it hadn't rained for weeks)

Callisto · 26/08/2012 09:29

I'd love to - where would I find it?

Butkin · 26/08/2012 11:48

OP what sort of horse do you have and what colour?

We never wear bling on the ponies (plain brown leather bridles and head collars with suede show saddles). Blinging to us was buying them plaited brown leather browbands from Fylde!

However DD does like to bling herself up and just purchased a show whip with silver end and poses about in Abercrombie jogging pants (over her jods to keep them clean) and Hollister tops.

Alameda · 26/08/2012 11:55

pssst Callisto this way

alwaysinthebackground · 26/08/2012 12:07

I think a small amount of bling in championship performances is fine!! But no I'm a very plain, dark person. My pony while on loan was pinked. She's now with a boy and not blinged much better!!! My tb does suit a bit of bling but we don't own any apart from coloured browband for showing. Dressage is plain plain plain when I do it!!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 28/08/2012 10:08

Dd has a little bling. She has a sparkly brow band. It has her pony's name in sparkly letters.
She was desperate for some sparkle, so I went to the local haberdashers and bought some tiny crystals. With the application of some superglue and tweezers, she has three crystals in a small row on her hat silk, and on the side tab of her leather gaiters. This is her 'jumping kit'! You can hardly see them, but in artificial light or bright sun you get the tiniest twinkle! It looks quite nice, and actually quite expensive! I've seen gaiters with crystals on at Hickstead, they cost a fortune!
Obviously, for showing, she wears plain tack and kit.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 28/08/2012 10:10

Pink or purple on the other hand is revolting, and should be burned!

Pixel · 28/08/2012 15:54

My friend is obsessed with pink and purple and has all her four gees kitted out, as well as all her own riding gear. Last month she dragged me round every stall at Hickstead looking at pink and purple bling and then had pink and purple nameplates made for her stable doors. I had to creep off and look at some nice soothing brown numnahs. I thought I was being a bit racy getting ds some blue half chaps!
I must admit I always loved my old pony in his brass clinker browband when it was all shined up, it really suited him, but does that count as bling? I was going to get one for dhorse but he has so much forelock there's not much point in buying him a fancy browband as you can't see it anyway.

dappleton · 29/08/2012 09:34

I have a bit of bling - I have a very sparkly brow-band! Only on one of my horse's though. He's a very delicate TB with a firey temper and it just sort of suits him!

Callisto · 29/08/2012 15:17

DD's pony had purple everything when I bought him, including purple bridle, purple stirrup irons and leathers, several purple girths, rugs, numnahs and headcollars. All in an awful bright purple that I couldn't bear. He now has a very smart French navy headcollar and lead rope, but that is the extent of our colour co-ordinating!

Loshad · 29/08/2012 18:05

ah nowa little colour co-ordinating i can do, eg for dressage schooling, white bandages and white saddle cloth, for cross country hat silk goes with jumper etc.
French navy is definately acceptable Grin

Pixel · 29/08/2012 19:09

Once I arranged to go for a ride with a woman at the stables we used to be at. I had to wait while she went all the way home to fetch another girth because the one she had didn't match the rest of her 'outfit', 3 miles of country lane just to get back to the road!
