Hello,

First time posting! Today was the day I got back in the saddle after the death of my horse 10 years ago. Oh I have missed it so much! My mum came with me to keep an eye on my kids said I had a huge smile on my face the whole time. It was a lovely feeling, like being home! So cheesy!

I would love to get my own horse again, but I doubt I will be able to afford that for a long time ESP with two young children. I arranged for my 3 year old daughter to be taken for a 20 min pony walk while I was in my lesson. She came back with a face like thunder as I was cantering round and quickly said I want to do that, that looks cool!

I am waiting until she is 5 (4 in January) before riding lessons (if she wants that). But im worried about going down that road again and being disapointed about never owning my own horse again. Maybe I should walk away now lol

Sorry thoughts on paper kinda thing going on here

I got back into riding with my two daughters when they were old enough - after an 8 year break. After just returning from a riding holiday in Ireland with broken rib ( me) and a broken arm (eldest daughter - 12) I am beginning to wonder if it was irresponsible of me to introduce my kids to such a pass-time........ Our biggest disappointment however is that we had to miss the beach ride so I know it won't stop us!

You'll find a way - theres always people looking for sharers for horses and ponies. If I could find someone nice (by which I mean with parents who understand horses), I'd happily let another child ride ds's pony, esp in the week when we have less time

An arrangment like that would be wonderful for my little girl. She would love to brush, chat away and have a quick ride. But I cant find anything in my area :( I think that would satisfy me as well lol

When I was 11, my mum found a woman who was disabled and was changing from horses to ponies for carriage driving. I got to ride her two little welshies and take them to pony club, as well as do a little driving. Got my horse at 14. Knocked it off there.

although am not really 100% pleased with horse when had to dismount for 12 seconds and he rolled in his saddle Angry

Well done going back to it, I went back about 5 weeks ago after a ten year break, I never owned my own pony or horse before but always was the dream.

I've done about 4 lessons and a lovely hack.

I got chatting to some people on an equestrian forum where they post if looking for horse shares and I am starting a horse share for a couple days a week, I did not think I'd get one as they never seemed near me or the horses needed someone more experienced. Have found a lovely horse and owner and tried him out last week and groomed him and gave him his lunch etc. It is kind of like having my own horse but without the full responsibility and high finacial costs. I think it will really prepare me for when I get a horse on full loan or buy my own in a couple years.

Keep searching, something will turn up, I think it is great to get kids involved with ponies and horses if they like it and it is affordable.

Maybe they could do a pony camp when she is a little older too?

Ask at stables where you go if someone is looking for a sharer, sometimes people do especially if they have two horses on livery they might get a sharer for one of them.

I have kept my sons away from the horse. Financially, I just can't afford for them to get interested in riding.
