OMG! I hurt so much!!

Just had an hours private lesson, my first lesson in over 15 years and the first time I've ridden properly in about 6 years! My left ankle has just about given up; it caved in and I ended up on my bum when I dismounted! And I hurt. Everywhere! But I loved it :) :)

Now I'm wondering what to do. I want to get my own horse again at some point, but not for a year or so. The instructor today has basically said I don't really need lessons, and as they only do privates in the day and I'm back at work next week, if I want to start going regularly, I'll have to join the group lesson, which I'm not overly keen on. Yet I want to get more practice before I buy another horse, but it seems like money down the drain paying for group lessons that I don't need!

I saw you were Midlands based - which area ? Where I ride, they do private lessons at the weekend - flat or jumping, or you can go out on a hack but theres canter tracks and xc jumps to use

I'm in between derby and notts. I'm working 7 days a week at the minute so would like to find somewhere that I can ride in the evenings ideally but not so keen on group lessons. I used to event years ago, and the instructor today said I've got a good seat and she couldn't fault my riding, so really need to just get some hours in and work on my fitness levels but don't know how to do that without lessons!

I think everyone needs lessons :) but how about advertising for a share of a horse? Would also let you help look after one again and see how much time you actually have to give towards one.

Then maybe just have a group lesson once a month to fine tune your riding and stop you getting into bad habits (which trust me happen frequently!) and learning more.

Freddie - I know someone who may need some help exercising her horses? And someone looking for a share. Your in a similar area to me.

Treblesallround · 02/08/2012 17:06

Freddie, I've got a lovely 14.2 Irish mare who I'm about to put up for sale, but she needs an extra rider in the meantime (and you might fall in love and want to buy her Smile) We're near Loughborough if that's any good location wise. PM me if interested at all.

Told you it'd all come back! Glad you had such a good time

Freddiebump · 02/08/2012 20:01

Yes I agree about everyone needing lessons but I don't think I'd feel right in a mixed age group lesson if you know what I mean?

horseylady whereabouts is your friend based? I'm definitely interested in a share but would depend on days etc as I'm working a 50 hour week at the minute (hopefully this is going to change soon if I get the job I've applied for :) ).

Treblesallround I'm about 45 mins from Loughborough :( else I'd have jumped at the chance!

My legs and shoulders hurt! Went from not having ridden for years to flippin' jumping today lol and I don't like jumping particularly at the best of times after a nasty accident whilst doing a ODE several years ago, so was as tense as hell! Can't wait to get ds in bed in a minute and have a nice long soak whilst catching up on the dressage from today on my laptop :)

Korma,
she's a 14.2 Irish pony (very connemara/tb cross style) She's a very pretty dark bay with a sweet face with a star. Lovely big paces and nice straight movement and lots of scope in her jump. She's 9, still a bit green as bred foals in Ireland but very nice natured and sensible.

We're looking for around 1,500 for her, including rugs and bridle. She's got a really nice saddle that was recently professionally fitted that we'd want 300 for (saddle fitter will buy it back for that)I'm selling the saddle seperately as adults tend to find the cut of the seat a bit narrow for anyone with a bit of a bum.

However, she's a very special little girl, she's probably the friendliest horse I've ever met, forms a huge bond with her owners and we want the best home possible for her, so we would negotiate for the right person

Great in traffic, sensible hack (but as she's a 13 year old's pony currently) she's only been out alone a couple of times and is a bit tense, but will do it. Very sensible in open spaces and was utterly fantastic when GD took her hunting.

Pm me if you're interested

If you're Notts/Derby Barleyfields in Etwall will do private lessonsin the week until very late at night. Not cheap though. Seems there are a few of us in the East Mids!

Thanks korma, she's not the right horse for someone looking for a confidence builder, she needs her hand holding a bit at the minute. I must get her advertised soon. I hope you find the right horse.
