She is very excited, especially after it took so long to find her.I'm picking her up at 4.30pm today.

Poor DH sat there holding the envelope containing the pony money and said that he couldn't understand why he was paying out good money for something that is going to cost him even more money.I reminded him that he does it because it makes his girls happy.Grin

Good luck-hope all goes well. What great timing, with the holidays just started!

Butkin · 18/07/2012 21:24

Good luck, have fun and remember than DH's always come round...

SmallWhiteWine · 18/07/2012 21:26

DH's always come around. I promise! Grin

Mine just sighs now. He had ponies as a child too, as I remind him almost every day.

Mirage · 18/07/2012 22:24

Thanks all.DH does love them really,he suggested a walk down to the field to see the new arrival after tea tonight. He just likes to moan about them, plus he is allergic too,so I do appreciate him accompanying us to shows and pony club.

Blueberry, the new girl is a dartie x and looks just like a Thelwell pony, with a big bushy mane and tail, she and dpony are separated by a post and rail fence for the time being, as dpony can be jealous.Dpony is normally aloof, has been very friendly and attention seeking towards us this evening. As I spend the most time with her,she regards me as 'hers' and doesn't like sharing me,but I'm sure she'll settle down in a bit.

1st rule of pony ownership:
NEVER EVER EVER tell DH how much they cost! Grin

Butkin · 19/07/2012 12:51

2nd rule of pony ownership:
DH's usually find out ! Wink

marge2 · 19/07/2012 12:56

3rd Rule - Never admit you couldn't ride today because they were lame, otherwise DH goes off on one about it being a waste of money, and he doesn't even know the half of what it actually costs!!!

Amieesmum · 19/07/2012 12:59

3rd rule of ownership:
Only tell DP AFTER you have purchased said pony - usualy shortly after indulging him with sexual favors :D he's too content to complain lol

Mirage2012Olympics · 19/07/2012 15:24

Grin at all these.Sadly DH did know what she cost as he had to pay for her.[out of his new tv fund] He was muttering about having spent xxxx amount on ponies, trailers and cars to pull trailers so far this year and I didn't have the heart to tell him that he hadn't taken into account shoes, wormer, feed, insurance, riding and grooming kit.

I've come to the conclusion that dpony really couldn't care less if she has company or not,she has been very jealous of every pony we've had since we've had her,the new one no exception. She can't stand it if any pony goes anywhere near me in the field and will chase them off, kicking and squealing.Even if they neigh when they see me coming she'll go for them. She is very odd and it is a good job I love her.

SaggyGoldOlympicSponsor2012 · 19/07/2012 16:29

Weeell, I'd suggest that you actually need 3! You don't get one on one jealousy then, there are always two left together. A similar sized elderly companion free to a good home might work well.

Mirage2012Olympics · 19/07/2012 18:19

I daren't,I just daren't push my luck any further Grin.I think my landlord has bought a foal, but is waiting for it to be weaned,so that'll perhaps change the dynamics a bit.

Dpony is horrible sometimes,I've separated them with an electric fence, and my neighbour has set it at 300v! Dpony came over with a gleam in her eye and began to lean against it to push it down like she normally does, then shot across the field like a rocket.I don't think 4 sets of shoes on the wet grass helped much.

Pixel · 19/07/2012 20:03

My mum was given the horse she had on loan, she'd owned him for 3 weeks before she told my dad. Of course he moaned but at shows he was always the one leading him about playing the proud 'owner'.Grin

SaggyGoldOlympicSponsor2012 · 19/07/2012 21:14

We have five, and the stallion is visiting at present! We never tell DP how much they cost! Wink dd bought the last one and they are all in her name. So he doesn't need to! Grin
If a new youngster arrives it will probably change the whole dynamic. There might be fisticuffs for a while but we usually leave them to it. I'd maybe take your current ponies hind shoes off though, if you do.

Mirage2012Olympics · 19/07/2012 22:41

Yes,I've got the farrier booked for Monday and told him I'd like fronts only on both of them.

I plan on preying on my dad's devotion to his grand daughters in the future and begging a field from him.Wink Then I can have as many as I like, but at the minute, having them at home and with access to a manege any time we like is too convenient.

SaggyGoldOlympicSponsor2012 · 20/07/2012 00:23

Shame! We actually have an elderly mini who would be ideal! Wink

Mirage2012Olympics · 20/07/2012 16:43

Awww! We saw some mini's at a show last week-the dds were quite taken.

We took Blueberry out on a hack today and she was lovely, bin lorries, buses, all ignored. She is very footsore when not on the verge though,so we won't take her out again until after the farrier has been.

Dh has just commented that I need a horse to ride now.I told him I can't afford it and he replied 'No, I can't afford it,you'll have to wait until I've saved up my TV money again'.The man never learns, does he?

Treblesallround · 23/07/2012 16:23

Good for Mr. Mirage, he sounds a good bloke (or a realistic one) Grin

Mirage2012Olympics · 23/07/2012 17:07

He he! He has just had an email from Amazon, advertising new tv's.He reckons they are taunting him.Grin

On the plus side, the farrier has been and sorted out poor B's feet.I could have cried as the poor little thing hobbled over the yard to him.Sad They were so bad that he had to glue her shoes on,but she obviously felt better afterwards as cantered around the paddock bucking.Let's hope that she isn't too lively for DD2 now she has her shoes back on again.
