Oh yes, Evasions & Lies!
I'm with Shearwater, they were very reasonably priced compared with others I looked at and they are always nice and helpful on the phone. However I've not yet had to make a claim so my recommendation may not be that helpful Hmm.

Try NFU - they pride themselves on their service. But they were more expensive than Pet plan for us this year, though were cheapest last year

E&L - excuses and lies according to the industry nickname !

It's £34 per month btw, covers everything except tack, as we take that home anyway, and loss of use as I've heard that can be a bit of a grey area if you want to claim for it. We never had a vetting but the insurance co. didn't seem concerned about that, don't know if it was because he was only 2 yo when we first insured him?

My sister was with NFU (until dpony reached his 20s and the price shot up), she seemed to think they were ok to go with and she works for a large veterinary practice.

Trebles had a good experience with NFU.When I rang to insure newboy,it worked out at £25 a month, but I do get a discount as we have a farm insured with them.I quibbled about the price and they said that when it comes up for renewal, they'll 'have a look at it'.KBIS was a £ or so cheaper, and Petplan was more expensive.

I would not touch E&L with a barge pole after a bad experience with them many years ago.

I'm now with SEIB and they are brilliant, my old mare had a nasty, expensive accident about 10yrs ago and they paid out very quickly, have never had any problems with them.

frostyfingers · 04/07/2012 20:33

I moved to SEIB from NFU after their premium went up. New dhorse went lame almost as soon as I got him but SEIB paid up without a quibble although technically they didn't have to as it was just outside a 10 day deadline (or something like that!).

snowpo · 04/07/2012 21:35

I've had very good experiences with KBIS. Very helpful and paid up quickly on 3 seperate claims.

horseylady · 04/07/2012 21:54

Nfu just brilliant!!

Treblesallround · 06/07/2012 11:53

NFU were fantastic when we had to claim for vet costs. They even paid for the additional livery costs for the period of box rest.

Put the equivalent of the premium in a seperate account each month, then get Bhs gold membership. It's about £60 per year, gives you public liability insurance, a certain amount of personal injury and. Free legal helpline. I've got five ponies, and couldn't insure them all individually. They're very hardy anyway so rarely ill.
