Ridiculous question about a tweed jacket!

This is an ultra-pathetic question, I know how sad I am even spending more than half a second in thinking about this, just wanted to get a quick show of hands really. If I turned up at your riding stables in a tweed jacket, would you shout "wanker!" at me? I have been given a nice light green tweed jacket, nothing showy or anything, but y'know, TWEED. I love dressing up and making an effort in my non-horsey life, and am desperate to wear it out hacking, but I do feel a bit of a dandy-ish wanker, really, especially as all the other women at the stables are in practical puffa jackets etc because they're obviously working hard and have better things to do than prat about in tweed jackets...
(If it helps I have a very strong Cockney accent that might help tone the tweed down a bit)

Haha! I do sympathise as I was given a lovely tweed jacket in 2006 and have only worn it for my bhs exams!

I wouldn't wear it for every day but if you want to then go ahead!

Mirage · 09/06/2012 15:14

I wear a tweed jacket all the time and no one has yet to shout at me.Wear it if you like it and tell any one who makes rude comments to shove it.Grin

CCsgirl · 09/06/2012 15:15

I certainly wouldn't shout at you but, honestly, might raise an eyebrow and nudge my mates. You have my sympathy though, I have a beautiful tweed hung in my wardrobe, in Australia, and no one wears them here, not even for showing Sad

Booboostoo · 09/06/2012 19:11

You should be able to wear whatever you like and feel comfortable in!

Having said that, I have made some horid PMS purchases that I have lived to regret so perhaps give yourself a week or so to make sure you really like it! Wink

SaggyCeratops · 09/06/2012 20:57

Keep it in the wardrobe for special. It'll be trashed in no time if you wear it everyday.

horseylady · 10/06/2012 00:01

Agree with saggy!!! Wear it to events not the yard :)

Callisto · 10/06/2012 08:10

I'm afraid that if you showed up at my yard in a tweed jacket just to go hacking we would all take the piss (in the nicest possible way, we are never nasty to people). And it will get dirty very quickly. Tweed is lovely but you can't just bung it in the washing machine. But if you like it and want to wear it, then I think that you should.

Idratherberiding · 10/06/2012 08:51

Thanks for your replies! I don't think I have the bottle TBH. It's a shame because I like looking smart, and it is a nice coat. I don't go to shows, just hacking and lessons. I might just wear it round the house, twirl around in front of the mirror for a bit and hang it back up. I think my riding skills incite enough abuse at the stables as it is, I think the addition of a tweed jacket is just asking for trouble...

Ahh, don't be put off wearing it. And never say never about shows.

Butkin · 10/06/2012 13:27

I don't think it would be ideal for the stables - would get too dirty and gives the impression you don't get stuck in!

However if you're a horsey person I'm sure there will be plenty of opportunities to wear it out - maybe just going to watch local shows, eventing or whatever you're in to.

You could always wear it if you did take a horse/pony to a show...

Idratherberiding · 10/06/2012 17:02

I don't go to shows, I don't have my own horse. I just hack out and have lessons, would love to get stuck in at the yard but pretty sure someone would say "can you get your mitts orf my horse please!". Never mind, hopefully it will still fit in thirty years time when I won't give a shit any more!

perhaps you could get a group of friends together to go to a point to point next season and you could wear it then? (obv not with johds!). Another suggestion is to go to a horse show as a spectator and wear it to that with jeans.

Agree with other posters, though, you'd prob get sniggered at for wearing it for a lesson or hack.

Idratherberiding · 11/06/2012 17:51

Seems a bit weird I'd get laughed at for wearing a riding jacket to ride in, but it would be okay to wear it when not riding?!? Anyway, love the idea of getting a group of friends together, but perhaps in a Hell's Angels sort of way? A gang where we all wear tweed coats rather than leather jackets? We could get studs on the back!!!
