People who put ads up wanting a cracking pony for free.. Am i the only one who wants to ring them up and abuse them?

Responding the FTGH ads, Yes do that, It's being offered and if you can offer it a good home go for it. Offering to take in unwanted/problem animals, Fine.

Loans.. again different.. But seriously, Do people really expect to get a 100% bombproof pony with tack (Oh and delivery too as no transport!) GIVEN to them for nothing?

Am i being snobbish?

My loan pony doesn't cost me any less that it would if I had bought him. We just avoided the £3000 lump sum. Insurance, tack, shoes, worming, food etc etc - we pay. I fail to see how not being able to afford to buy a pony means that you can't afford to keep one. I'm sorry, but that is breathtakingly snobbish, even if you don't realise it.

Rosettes -Usually people who are after one for nothing want to do everything else on the cheap tho n have no idea what horses cost and havent had one before. (As evidenced by must be 100% bombproof.novice ride).

I'm not sure why you're so offended - You went out, got a pony on loan, You've kept them in good condition, kept them well etc. I have not once taken issue with that. You clearly know what you're doing.

I'm in the if-you-can't-buy-one-you-can't-afford-to-keep-one camp. Snobbish? No, I was just brought up thinking that if you want something expensive you save up for it, rather than expecting to be given it for nothing. (And obviously this doesn't apply to loan ponies, where you're not actually "given" it.) If I'd saved my horse's running costs towards buying him it would have taken me about 8 months, so not that long really.

(Waits for someone to come on and tell me their monthly costs are tuppence hapenny and a packet of polos.)

God I wish I could find someone to take my horse on loan for free! Am due to drop in 4 weeks, no one to help me look after him, advertised everywhere to no avail :( Still, he is 18 and not 100% sound so suppose I shouldn't be that surprised!

rosettes · 03/05/2012 09:38

I'd take an 18 year old! Not sure about the lameness though.

frumpet · 13/05/2012 09:49

When you say not 100% what does that mean

frumpet · 13/05/2012 09:57

I bought my horse as not 100% , he cant do dressage etc but he can happy hack till the cows come home .
