Hi, my name is Obladi and I am obsessed with trailers and horseboxes - tell me what you use for horse transport?

I finally got a pony for dd1 in November. He is lovely, 13.2, NF, a bit green - he is only 6 - but bombproof in traffic and very easy to stop (a bit too easy...forward going he aint!). I ride him once a week (I'm 5 7 and 10.5 stone but like to think I am very balanced, certainly don't feel unbalanced on him and only walk and trot). dd1 rides all weekend, BUT WE DON'T HAVE A TRAILER/A CAR THAT WILL PULL A TRAILER/OR ENOUGH MONEY TO BUY A CAR THAT WILL PULL A TRAILER Sad phew, sorry to shout. Dd1 (12) is brilliant with him and hacks him out around the lanes and has started working him in the paddock a bit when it is dry enough, we are thinking of putting a couple of small jumps in there for her. But the lack of transport is beginning to do my head in - she can't go to Pony Club or shows or anything. Occasionally a friend will give her a lift somewhere but it is really out of their way so it doesn't happen very often. What do you use to transport your horses?

Can I just put a 4x4 forward that not many people think of but is very affordable and very capable for towing and off road- NISSAN TERRANO! My last 3 cars have been Terrano's they come in 2.7l which can pull 2.8 ton I think or the more recent ones come in 3litre which can pull 3 ton if my memrory is right. I bought a 2005 long wheel base with low miles last year for about £4500.
I have never been let down by one yet. My parents used to have a P reg Discovery years ago and if it could break it did break, wipers , lights , windows, doors you name it.

We tow a ifor williams 510

Have just bought an Ifor Williams 505 (after buying a disco to tow with a couple of weeks ago) haven't towed it yet, but I am very excited! :o

congratulations! that didn't seem to take very long

does this mean we will see you at topthorn one day? :)

DedalusDigglesPocketWatch · 01/02/2012 18:59

Hopefully!

We have been talking about it for a long time, and once we got the Disco it seemed silly to hang around really. Just hope the mare travels in it, she bent my friend's partition at the weekend! trollop

We are planning on an endurance ride in March near thetford (eek!)

MitchieInge · 02/02/2012 14:57

I haven't ridden for ages, or even seen my horses (bad hip and stupid car and then virus :() so I just feel Envy but can never stay out of the saddle for long.

My body is really thanking me for NOT riding though Confused I suppose it's a lot of wear and tear over time? Thank goodness for sharers, although suspect neither of them are pleased with me for disappearing for days on end
