due to my husband pissing off having an amicable split, I am now in the really sad position of having to sell or loan my 20 yr old pony. She is as fit as a fiddle with no health problems and she is used 3 times a week by a riding school for jumping lessons so she is no geriatric in her self however who would have her at her age?
she is simply the perfect pony, does funrides, XC, SJ amazing on the roads but how can I get a) a good home (most important) b) anyone to even look at her.

I'm really not bothered how much I get for her - that isnt the ssue I just now cannot afford livery costs.

have any of you wise souls got any tips for me?

I'd offer her for loan so you get her back when she needs to retire. Lots of people want a nice pony, but are put off by the idea of retiring one. By the time she's ready to come back your situation may have changed. Or maybe let the riding school have her on full loan if you're happy with them?

I'd have her in a heartbeat if she was smaller.I'm actively looking for an older pony,so other people will be too.We bought our pony when she was 21 and she is an absolute star.
Have you thought about advertising her on the Pony Club website? A lot of people on the 'wanted' section are looking for confidence givers.I'd be surprised if you can't find a good home for her-where abouts are you?

It is well worth trying to loan her. Reliable children's ponies are hard to find and some families may also be able to retire her in a few years if needed. If you possibly can try loaning instead of selling, at that age it;s best to retain some comtrol over her future.

FWIW I just came across \link{http://www.preloved.co.uk/fuseaction-adverts.showadvert/index-1034689490/6886015c.html\17-yr-old 14.3 ish pony for sale} (£800)

also a very cute Shetland, \link{http://www.preloved.co.uk/fuseaction-adverts.showadvert/index-1034739642/ecf04036.html\on loan but has to stay in existing yard at £25 pw} (no age given for him but he looks quite young) This one says 'If you can't do 7 days a week, no problem, fewer days can be arranged' - maybe you could find a share with the livery costs, & not have to let her go completely?

Someone will surely want to share livery costs with you. She sounds gorgeous. If we weren't in dire straits at the moment I would ask where you lived, as my 13 year old needs a pony share to build confidence following a tumble. But until my husband gets another job . . .

Lots of people will be interested in a share. A willing and kind piny is a treasure.

Where abouts are you and would she carry 9st ???

molliemol · 18/11/2011 19:13

Where are you roughly? I am looking for a quiet 13:2, and am looking to loan or buy, for my 11 year old daughter.

If she's already popular at the riding school it should be no problem to find someone who is ready for a partial loan and would be delighted to find that a pony they already know could be available. In fact, I think you might get a queue forming!

maddy68 · 20/11/2011 17:35

whoo hoo he riding school have offered to take her on full loan so she wont notice any difference - same stable , field etc what a relief, also I am so so sad - what a mix of emotions!

I'm pleased for you-it must be a real relief.

Abra1d · 20/11/2011 19:15

Excellent! Will you still be able to go and see her regularly?

She sounds gorgeous. If I were ever able to be more involved in owning ponies she would be just what I'd love for my daughter.

oh maddy, that's fab Smile
