I'm told by them that know that if you're horse is mad out hunting , you need to hunt it hard and often - I was once recommended 3 days in one week - so that it becomes less of a novelty! I don't know if that works as I never tried, but it many ways it makes sense. The only thing is that I'm not sure I could manage it either physically or financially!

Was told exact same, hunt him hard three times a week! Although others advised differently and a few have said 'look, some horses can't do it' but it is the most natural thing in the world, surely? Nothing feels more right to me, and it's got all his favourite things.

I could make a short term insanely big financial investment, then subscribe or go less often but I depend on goodwill for transport, or hack to meet or obviously when lucky enough for one to be hosted at our place. Would have to go with different ones, as far as I know my favourite and most local lot meet only twice a week and I have to sit down with them and agree which meets are 'suitable', at least we are not banned yet. Have been lucky really as can't imagine every pack being as accommodating, they are very encouraging. I know in theory I could take antihero horse, of own or someone else's, but I desperately want to do this with HIM. He is my greatest love!

ANOTHER not antihero

why does it do that!

TenderlyLovinglyByAGoat · 03/11/2011 14:09

physically I can manage the riding, don't know about the falls though

You're probably best to stick with those that know you - a nice smile and lots of "sorries" works very well I've found as I've careered past people that I shouldn't! Maybe a change in feed to something non heating (if he's even on that) might help, a good long exercise the day before or a long hack to the meet. When we were small we were never dropped off at the meet, always at least two miles away to take the edge of our ponies.

I shoud think with repetition he will settle, but it will take a while.....
