I've never sold a horse before, what's the best way of going about it?

Oh no! Have you really, really got to sell them? Can we help you come up with another plan? I've never sold one so can't help with proper advice

Can you get a sharer so you can split the cost 50/50 or maybe out them out on loan?

We've sold horse/ponies on horsequest.com and found it to be an excellent site. Spend some time working out their true value by searching for similar types/ages/heights/performance. Take really good photos or get permission from professional photographers to use their ones if you've bought some good ones. Make sure you explain everything clearly including reasons for sale as well as all the technical details - check other adverts to make sure you've included everything sensible. Make sure you're ready to deal with customers from the moment the advert goes live though - especially the following weekend - because you'll slip down the order quickly the following week.

We always include a margin because everybody wants to negotiate with you.

Have you got somewhere good to show the off? If not then look into paying to use a nearby menage when people come to see them.

I don't know your animals but there may be other good sites. If they are suitable for Pony Club, for example, many Pony Club websites will advertise you for free if you are in their area.

Probably hundreds of other things to consider - just ask.

Thanks all. Yes I have to sell them, they are kicking my asthma off and I have no negotiating space medication-wise. On the full dose of everything, including Singulair and it is definitely them causing it :(

Am having a good look at horsequest, BigHorse should sell well, LittleHorse is going to be more of a problem as he's only a baby.

poor you. Young horse might sell better than you think. I was always told, you sell potential. unspoiled by someone else is often very desirable. List all the things he has potential for.
One very important thing to remember when selling is, dont exaggerate, of make the horse out to be more than it is. If you say, '100% in traffic', make sure it is, or put, 'good in traffic'. IYSWIM. Stay away from words like 'perfect'.
We have used Horse Quest and Horse and Hound, and Adhorse looks quite good.

I sold my boy through NewRider classifieds and I also put up local ads, but I had plenty of enquires through NR and found him a fab home, where I can go and visit :) Good luck.

Oh no.We had to sell my pony when I was little because of a similar thing.It was my sister who had bad asthma and I couldn't wear or have anything remotely horsey in the house or she'd end up in hospital.I'm really for you,but echo what other posters say about Horsequest.We found our new pony via a notice board in The Countrystore,although she was also on the Pony Club website too.

Hi for the baby have a look at project horse. We sold a mare in there not that long ago.Also horse deals is good and horse and hound.

Just to update you, I never got around to sorting an ad out. I have sold both the horses. They go this afternoon, together. I am so happy and relieved. I know who they are going to and they will have a lovely home together. Is the absolute best thing that could happen.

But also very sad that my time with them has come to an end :(

Yes, not only can I go over and see them whenever I like, I know their neighbours AND I can go over and ride them. Depending upon my bloody asthma.
