The Queen-why doesn't she wear a hat?

Nice picture of The Queen in the Daily Mail with her two grandchildren (who are wearing hats) and she's got on one of her ubiquitious headscarves. Now I know she's an adult and it's her choice but the press keeps blethering on about role models for children.I appreciate she's got to this age and is still riding a horse but I've never seen her wear one.NOMB I suppose. (But her horse is bally gorgeous!)

I missed that! Apparently it was quite amusing! Was it a police horse?

Ponders · 13/05/2011 15:32

was a Guards horse I think - one of the beautiful black ones

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 13/05/2011 15:50

I'd heard it was grey.Bet that dented his armour! I can imagine that poor guardsman was cleaning loos for a month!!

Butkin · 13/05/2011 21:53

Black - you can see it clearly in the video on utube. Strange thing was it was going along, riderless, in the middle of a pack of guards horses but none of them thought to catch it before it suddenly burst cleared and hammed down the outside of the carriages.

Ponders · 13/05/2011 22:08

I think it kind of burst through the pack of guards, from behind - by the time they realised it was there it had gone.

When its rider was first unseated another guard did grab it, & the rider tried to remount, but the horse was too excited & got away (reportedly).

There are a lot of clips of it going through the group of horses behind the carriage but none of when the rider was actually unseated afaik

I just entered 'royal wedding runaway horse' on YouTube and found footage of him falling off. The horse just went down, then got up, dragged the guard a few feet then he was free. The poor bloke had th stand to attention as carriages full of royals went Past! I hope he didn't get into trouble, you can't see how the horse went down, but it didn't seem to rear up or anything.

It has been a sore point for many years that the Queen doesn't wear a riding hat. One reason given is the hat line around the hair afterwards is the reason she doesn't wear a riding hat.

One thing is for sure, the queen isn't going to start wearing a hat now at this late stage

ManateeEquineOhara · 14/05/2011 21:31

Silly women not wearing a hat, whatever her reason.

Loving the ponies though, and the Queen looks far happier there than she did at the wedding!

Lovely pic, and what beautiful ponies.

I think she's amazing to still be riding at 85.
