Can fat, old, people learn to ride?

I am old. And fat. But I have a hankering towards learning to ride. could I? How? How would a pony hold me up? Would I be laughed at?

Yes of course you can!

Get thee to a Riding Stable and go and see some of the horses. You would mount using a mounting block, and would find your fitness and balance improving immediately.

And the next day you will ache in areas you never knew existed! Grin

And you can have a private or group lesson - whichever suits your level of embarrassment!

The back problem will either be made better or much, much worse - only you can tell, sorry.

I'm short and fattish and I don't care. I ride nice sturdy native ponies. I have a really Huge Shetland pony who carries me without any trouble and we look really odd together. Like I am riding a 14 hander in a ditch. I don't care what anyone says. I love her and she loves me. Go for it. Riding is marvellous.
