Best route for returner without induction done

I never did my induction after gaining QTS as I got pregnant and was a SAHM for over 15 years.

I now want to get my first job as an ECT. As my PGCE was over 5 years ago I am not allowed to do supply. My goal is to try to get an ECT role for September 2027 (though I don't know how realistic that is).

What is my best path to get there? I have started doing some volunteering in a school (but they understandably don't want to give me whole class teaching opportunities). Should I try to get a HLTA role for this September or should I try to keep myself free in case a teaching maternity cover comes up in January? Or is it wildly optimistic to think that I'd be shortlisted for such roles?

I feel like I'm stuck as you're not allowed to go back and redo the PGCE so I'll be up against new graduates when I can't get recent experience.
I'd really appreciate any advice.

I would check to see if you are ineligible to do Supply. There are a number of posts advertised for unqualified Teachers.

Thanks, but I believe that once you have QTS you cannot just ask to be paid as a non-qualified teacher to try to get around the 5 year rule. I don't see any primary jobs advertised as non-qualified teacher?

If the school are willing to support you to begin induction you could do long-term supply. I would approach agencies and see if they have any LT vacancies.

Thanks so much for your reply. That is exactly what is happening now - got an interview next week for a 1 year maternity cover! So excited!
