Negotiating Early Exit

I want to leave my current role. Ideally with immediate effect. I was off with mental health reasons and have been back a while. School are failing to support me and have put no ongoing adjustments in place after phased return, despite my expressing I need some support multiple times. I feel close to another breakdown and ending up off work again but I don’t want to be off again. I think the solution is to leave.

I’ve never asked for an early release before. Will I essentially stop being paid as soon as I leave? I feel there is actually a failure of duty of care on the school’s part as some OH suggestions have been ignored and some legal breeches which I can’t go into further as I don’t want to be identifiable via my thread.

My department were also told the reasons behind my initial absence which I don’t think is appropriate.

I’m guessing this would also form a break in continuous service if release was agreed?

Get signed off again and get your summer holiday pay. Resign to leave August 31st. Why would you want to leave immediately and not get paid for the holidays?

I don’t want to. And in all honesty I am beginning to feel I am really struggling with my mental health again.

I’m just concerned at what another period of long term sick will do to my prospects of securing another job elsewhere.

I mean this in the kindest way possible, but what support are you wanting?

Speak to your union. If you don't feel comfortable / can't speak to your school rep, contact branch / regional.

Support to manage the outside of classroom requirements mainly. Duties, classroom moves, after school commitments.

Difficult situation you are in OP.

If you want to leave with immediate effect then this is usually a mutual agreement between the employee and the headteacher. You will receive your salary up to your final date of employment. If you was to get signed off then you’d still receive your salary.

It is totally inappropriate and unprofessional for your department to be informed of your absence - that’s none of their business unless you wish to disclose it.
