Teaching and being a parent: really can’t be bothered with my own kids as I’m so stressed and done with kids.

Sounds awful I know. But how do other teachers manage to be a great mum after working with kids all day. I’m honestly overstimulated and can’t stand any noise at home before or after school.

I have found that if I take myself off with a cup of tea for 20 mins to be on my own when I first get home, I'm a much better mum for the rest of the evening. I appreciate that's impossible when the kids are really small though. I do sympathise. I had a nap yesterday afternoon (Saturday) while the kids watched telly as I was so exhausted!

It's really hard. I worked three days a week when they were young and I totally get what you are saying. How long is your journey home? I had a 45 minute drive and putting an audiobook on helped me to decompress a bit.

It’s only 15 mins home but it’s still nice to have that time.
Ijust feel so sick of kids and being nice to people and of noise. Then I feel guilty for being horrible.

This is exactly my strategy. Either an audio book or TOTP playlists from when I was a teen and life was easy. If I didn’t have any of this decompression time, I’d be such a grouch with my DC.

It's why I am taking a break from teaching!

I remember this most keenly when I was a Reception/KS1 teacher and they were that age. By the time they were 10 or so and more independent, it eased off. Hang in there!

I lowered my standards in the classroom having done the reverse at the expense of my kids previously. It’s made it a lot easier. And I’ve got two under 4 so they always need something.
