Please help. Detention cancelled by SLT without consulting me

Hi
Have name changed for this.
I have a really tricky ks3 class. One student in particular has been continuously causing problems with low level interruptions but despite repeated reminders from me about how this isn’t helpful, he persists. I finally had enough and issued a detention as per the school behaviour policy. His father has complained about me. His child has told him a pack of lies about the incident that dad has just accepted. The complaint went to SLT who cancelled the detention without asking me for my version of events.
Has anyone else been undermined like this? I’m worried about the message that has been sent to both pupil and parent. I’m so upset by this. I’ve been feeling pretty low for a while and this incident feels like the final straw.
What should I do? What would be reasonable action? Please help.

What should you do? Well contact SLT and ask for more information as to their decision.

So shit, not surprising you feel undermined

Looks like the phone call from Daddy worked. SLT so often support the parents and not the teacher.

Honestly the best thing you can do is to resign and start afresh in September. Sorry I have been there in 3 separate school and after I left (or during my notice period) each school asked if I would stay or return after I had left

On the last school I taught in, I gave 1 behaviour point to a student as I was at the end of my tether. That resulted in a 3 side of A 4 e-mail as I was basically the most evil teacher in the Universe and what was worse was I did not understand her daughter.

I decided there and then not to return and this was the final straw.

Leave start afresh in September and remember they need us more than we need them

I had this in my last school and it was utterly shit. Not only was the child a nightmare afterwards as he thought he could do whatever he wanted, his friends joined in and the class became unteachable. I didn’t last a term. I think you need to raise the issue with SLT but be prepared for them to do nothing.

I’d send an email and ask why it was cancelled and if no satisfaction
escalate.

I would feel undermined too - you followed the behaviour policy and SLT went back on it. I would email SLT to reiterate the reason for the detention, how you followed the behaviour policy, and your concerns about the impact the removal may have on this student but also other students too.

You did the right thing!

This happens constantly at our place. I’ve given up putting on detentions as they are just removed.
