Teachers; would you work at your child’s school?

Pros and cons of this please?

I am currently doing my PGCE/QTS and a year four position has come up at my daughter’s small prep. I applied for it, as I thought why not?

Obviously I haven’t even been offered an interview yet. And the other person who came on an initial school tour with me had years of experience but hey ho!

I’m wondering what the pros and cons would be!

Thank you. X

I think it depends on the school, because if there's only one Y4 class, then I wouldn't! In secondary school it would be fine as you wouldn't see them...

It's common in Prep schools, as presumably you'll get a reduction in fees? There's also the benefit that you'll be there for all your child's special events, like sports days, assemblies etc. It might be that you would have to move year groups to avoid teaching your child; the school might not want to do this. Why don't you just apply and see what happens?

I think there’s two forms, so wouldn’t be an issue. She’s only in reception currently too!

They didn’t mention school fee reduction, but I’d not mind too much anyway! It would be more to benefit me, as you say with school events etc. It is obviously a lovely school, and I love being a parent of a child there.

It worked well for me. I loved being at the same school as DC. It definitely gets easier the older they are though because little ones need a lot of looking after at the end of the day when you really want to focus on getting your work done.

I have taught all my own children at different stages of Primary and it was never an issue. They are grown up now and recently we were talking about it with their now partners. I was pleased they all had a positive reaction to it and l look back on it fondly.

That’s lovely! Did you get in early with them and leave late with them? My husband could do some of the pick ups but wondering how you worked it out. As sometimes I am at school until 5-5:30. X
