Year mentor - should I apply?

After being a stay at home mum for a number of years I went back to uni to progress a new career in education. I’m in year 2 of my degree but have also been volunteering in a primary school for 12 months doing reading, intervention in small groups etc and I have also been exam invigilating in a high school.

There is a job at the high school for a year mentor, I’m not sure if I should apply - I’m not sure my experience is enough and I don’t tick every box in the ‘essential’ category (things like experience of conflict resolution and restorative justice implementation) - but the role has been advertised twice and apparently had very few (and all unsuitable) applications last time.

So what do you think? Should I apply or am I embarrassing myself?

Do you have any experience of dealing with a child who has just lost a parent or who has suffered abuse or who is being groomed for county lines or who is worried because their dad is about to be released from prison or is really stressed about exams?

No, I don’t and this is my concern and why I have been cautious about applying.

That's basically the job.

Why are you interested in applying?

Seems like you’ve answered your own question OP - you haven’t got the experience for that particular role - but still I’d have a conversation with whoever is in charge of recruitment to see if they have any suitable roles for you.
