I feel so stuck and don't know if I've any sensible options.

Taught for 12 years. 9 in a very successful independent school. I was middle management 'til I had children then stepped down to 'just' teaching at 0.6. Life was good

Then we moved. The commute should have been fine but traffic meant it became a nightmare. I
Regularly over 3 hours a day. Three days it was 6. DH's job is hugely taxing and I was exhausted. I saw the academic year out and then quit.

I now have a non teaching, 2 day a week job. It's fine but I so miss my job.

If I can't ever find a suitable part time position again, does anyone have any career suggestions please?! I'm open to any suggestions. I taught History and Politics.

Thanks.

Eotas work isn't as secure and less salary though does give you some flexibility timewise and means you can still teach.

Tutoring, online if you live rurally? Retrain as a primary school teacher?

As you probably know, History and Politics is massively oversubscribed in terms of teachers.

You might consider reaching out to local schools with your CV - especially if you have results you can rely on (I know it shouldn't work this way, i.e. results, but it does). For example, I know that I have a gap of about 0.5 in History (History, RE and Philosophy HOD) next academic year and at the moment we're going round the houses thinking about how we're going to jigsaw this together across Hums - because there's also gaps elsewhere. If I got your email, I'd be interested, partly because I'd know I could easily pick up another 0.5 specialist.

As it goes, I work about 10 minutes from where I live (large town) and that short commute is invaluable. I got my job (not the HOD bit) through an agency. Could be very worth your while reaching out to the reputable ones in your area who have good relationships with the local schools above and beyond the 'supply and cover' generics.

Good luck. Sounds like a rock and a hard place at the moment. Also, get a cleaner.

Secondary with QTS doesn't have to 'retrain'. QTS means you can teach any age. Same is true going primary to secondary.

Might take a bit of practice though! I couldn’t just walk into a job as a secondary teacher. Wouldn’t know where to start…

I thought I'd come back and update the thread. An amazing school advertised for part time history and I went for it and got it.
It's like my dream school with a short commute and part time. I'm so happy!!!
