Applying for jobs

I am currently working in a school that makes me unhappy. I’m also quite poorly and being investigated for the c word, lots of tests and lots of stress.

Now, my issue is, some of my health concerns stem from the work place and it’s toxic. I have seen a role I really like the look of, I may not be good enough but I want to give it a go. But I’m trying to think of the right way to tell my manager because last time I applied for a job she belittled me prior to interview and after interview.

I always struggle to understand how to correctly request a reference. Am I correct in thinking, before you even apply, if you’re interested, you tell your manager you’ll be using them as a referee?

Stress affect your immune system and that can cause some very strange symptoms. This is speaking from experience as well as illnesses which do not seem to have a specific cause.

I leant a long time ago due to one horrendous head of subject that both physical and mental health is more important than a job.

As for applying - try and keep it casual say the job is closer to home, or more in line with the way I want to progress in the profession. Check with the school (?) you are applying for and they may only take up references after the interview.

If however things are too bad to stay then a break doing supply may be of benefit. This will give you an opportunity to see how other schools operate and time to reassess how you want to progress.

Good luck.
