Anyone else's school adopted the Paul Dix behaviour protocol?

My primary school has, in the proper half arsed manner that they adopt anything new and without proper training or follow through. Suffice to say the behaviour has taken a massive nosedive.
Most staff haven't got a clue what is going on.
We were previously following Tom Bennet and I think with great success.
SLT are now running 4 separate rooms where the most disruptive children play at break and lunch and have their 'consequences'. This involves doing fun things- so SLT are not available to help with issues on the playground at break and lunch.
I really need to find another job.

I do supply, and it's utter chaos in the schools with this type of system. The best schools provide clear boundaries and consequences, not excuses and rewards for bad behaviour.

BigButtons · 11/11/2025 06:04

Thanks- yes it is utter chaos- very depressing. I have no idea why we switched from a system that was working in the main.

Unsurprisingly the behaviour assistant needs and assistant because the behaviour is out of control. There are constant excuses made for the worst offenders- usually home life. The further they push the bigger the boundaries get. Yesterday one was seen scooting down the corridor on a swivel chair as part of his very many sensory breaks.

I left 2 schools that brought in PD. Awful.

noblegiraffe · 11/11/2025 23:19

RUN.

I thought Paul Dix was over. So many schools have tried and behaviour goes through the floor that you’d think word would have spread.

calimali · 11/11/2025 23:22

Its awful. But once SLT have bought into it they will not admit they have been sold snake oil.

BigButtons · 12/11/2025 06:30

@calimali we had it thrust upon us at a recent inset. I was off with an ear infection so haven’t get a clue.
As far as I can work out none of the staff are on board with it.

Yes we brought it in. Behaviour at our school was fairly good. Awful now - it seems to have quietly trickled away but the damage has been done.

I love Tom Bennett!

thatsmyhouse · 14/11/2025 22:11

Yes - it's been shit. Last week we had a 'positive noticing day' which resulted in SLT interrupting lessons to give disruptive kids slips saying how great they were and teachers who try and be the kids' friends being given great big luggage tags saying how great they are by the kids they enable which they wear with pride on their lanyards. It's a total nightmare. I'm looking for other jobs - sick of the lack of boundaries and lack of support.

BigButtons · 15/11/2025 07:32

@thatsmyhouse you are bloody kidding. Luggage labels?

WTF.

Allowing teaching to become a public popularity contest - what the hell are they thinking??

winewolfhowls · 22/11/2025 07:55

I thought Dix was very much in the past. How depressing that it's still about

BigButtons · 22/11/2025 12:23

I was told off again last week due my language choices. My class were behaving like wild animals- they were completely out of control- I was told off for saying that. Also sayingI do not want this boy coming out on the daily run (because he is out of control and dangerous) was also the wrong language apparently .
Working there is starting to make me ill. A kid shat on the toilet floor yesterday. My class have broken 2 teachers already this year.
we get told off for conversations we have in the staff room- we get reported- this culture is actively encouraged by management.
their latest way of dealing with increasing staff frustration and unrest is to tell us to work as a team and give us the occasional brioche bun.

So the already out of control kids are very much running the show.

We have this in my school, since September. At first, it did seem to be working but I soon realised that the reason it felt better was because the most disruptive children were in year 6 and left at the end of the last year. It was a very difficult cohort. What we're seeing now is children that were previously a little bit difficult have become really disruptive. Lots of exiting, lots of alternative (more fun) activities being offered. Id be on board with it if the aim was to de-escalate very emotional/ disregulated kids, but we're seeing now a lot of children just calmly saying no to their work and then being allowed to play Uno with a TA instead. We had 4 kids refuse to go out to break last week (it was cold) and the head allowed a football in the corridor.

I'm a parent to a child with ADHD who genuinely struggles to control his behaviour and I would be seriously pissed off if he ever pulled this shit at school - he doesn't though, because his school are sensible and so are we!

I'm also looking for another job!

We have also adopted the OPAL play scheme thing which is somewhat hellish as we have a big wooded area and a very large field. The kids build dens and there are daily fights.
it feel like being a in war zone from the moment I step through the door.
@Sprookjesbos i can quite believe the football situation.
we have a teacher who covers 2 days a week- she has the two worst classes in the school- one of them is mine. They are eating her alive and slt are doing nothing to help her. She was reduced to tears twice this week and it is not her fault but they will say it is because she is not managing them. They know they can do what they want.
