Pension advice

I am on the UPS with a TLR which takes me over the 40% tax threshold. I anticipate that I may drop a day in a couple of years, and I am currently 53 and teaching over 20 years.

Is there much point in opening a SIPP? How else have others invested in a tax efficient way?

I retired this time aged 56 and 6 months. I'm doing an odd bit of supply just to boost my pension.

I opened a SIPP after I downsized last year and have continued to put a bit of money each month into it. It's increased nearly 50% in 12 months. I plan to keep working just part time until I'm 61 or so and then use my SIPP to bridge the gap to state pension age.

Once you retire it gets complicated with how much money you can put into it if you're not working as it's classed as pension recycling.

If you have the spare cash it can't do any harm or you could look into avc's in your current pension
