Grammatical error on application

Last week I applied for a role I really wanted. I worked really hard on the application. It’s a leadership role and I really liked the school. I put everything into that application. I checked. Checked and checked again. Today I logged into the portal to see if there were any updates. I looked at my application that was submitted and the first word is missing and the start of the statement started with an incomplete lowercase grammatical error.

I promise I checked this and I know it wasn’t like this when I submitted it. It’s been over a week and I’ve heard nothing and I’ve taken my silence as the answer. However I’m so disheartened that this happened.

I really wanted this and now I’ve just ruined my chances and I don’t know what to do because I know in my area opportunities such as this don’t come around often.

The role was working in the English department too. Which now makes me look even worse and it wasn’t sloppily written or anything. The software seems to have removed the first word when I uploaded it.

It’s been a week. Shall I make my peace with this?

Also, I realise there are some grammatical errors in the post but I’m typing this while crying over the realisation they won’t even contact me for an interview now.

I'm really sorry that you are disappointed. I do worry a bit about you applying for an English department job, because you do not have a high level of written English yourself. Your whole first paragraph in your OP is a series of very short sentences or even just phrases with lots of full stops. I think that if you wrote like that in your application then it's really unlikely that you would get to interview.

Do you have qualifications in English language yourself?

The reply above is very harsh! I would probably email the school, explain what happened and that I was still very interested in the job.

I have a first class degree in English Language and think this is very unfair. If anything, the short sentences sounded like they were used for effect.

I’m actually the head of English. Furthermore, I have an English degree and was very successful in completing this qualification, with a first class honours.

However, I do apologise, as I was in the midst of a crisis, I was unable to check my grammar on the post. I will ensure that I proof-read next time.

Why the need to be so unkind @ItIsReallyFine?
I think the first post was absolutely fine…op was posting quickly on a forum not entering an essay writing contest!

Op I have everything crossed for you!

Thank you very much❤️.

Would you advise against contacting the school to flag the error I have made?

Honestly, yes because if they haven’t noticed it then it’ll flag it up for them and if they had noticed and decided not to interview you on the basis of it then they probably won’t change their minds.

I fairly recently submitted an application with a whole section that was messed up (I have NO idea what happened) they still interviewed me and it went really well. I’m not sure a single typo is make or break in an otherwise good application.

No harm in doing a general chase up though.
