What’s it really like to join an academy?

We (currently state comprehensive) are due to join a local academy. Management have narrowed it down to what they feel is the best fit for us out of a few local academy trusts.
What are people’s experiences in terms of conditions for staff etc.? What questions do we need to ask and what assurances do we need to seek (can there even be any real assurances or do we have to take at face value what is promised?). It’s an uncertain time and there are some horror stories out there so I’d appreciate actual real experience of staff who have been through the process, good and bad.

Thank you

I really don't think there is any difference. What makes the difference between a good school and a bad school is the management and SLT. The management could be good or bad in any school. Having done supply and worked in a few schools, I have seen a few good academy schools, a few bad and likewise a few good Council run schools and bad Council run schools. All depends on the personality of the man or woman at the top.

The only thing to consider, is that academies can set their own sick pay arrangements and notice periods. Check these out before accepting the conditions .
