New school asking for performance management from old school to move to UPS 1

Hi all, looking for advice regarding UPS1 application. I recently started a new school in January. I got moved up the pay scale in my old school to M6 in October. I asked my new school about moving to UPS1 next academic year and they said I would need all my performance management from my previous school. I am worried my old school might not give this to me let alone have kept my performance management documents.

I am confident I have good reason to go on to UPS 1 as I have completed the NPQ in leading teaching, I have been a HOD for 2 years in my previous school in which I gave up all my half terms and Easter holidays due to BTEC coursework.

Has anyone else had the same problems?

Do you belong to a union? This doesn't sound right to me. Going through the threshold should depend on how you have done in the last year at your current school.

What does your school’s pay policy say?

Your new school needs to satisfy itself that you are highly competent in all aspects of the relevant standards and that your achievements and contribution are substantial and sustained.

Your current school only knows about what you have done while you’ve been there. If your application is going to rely on evidence of what you did in your previous school (which your post suggests it is) it makes sense for the new school to want to see some confirmation of that.

My school’s pay policy requires two years of performance management of ‘effective’ or higher judgements. We would therefore ask as your current school has done. Your school can get in touch with your old head to confirm this - they will definitely have a record of your judgement.

Agreed, we'd require sustained evidence over more time than you'll have been there, so would work back to contributions at previous school.

Even for MPS and a Sept start, starting salary would be the one actually on when interviewed, and any uplift backdated after looking at performance data, appraisal targets etc in Nov, when pay progression is actioned.

This highlights one of the problems of trying to force a business model of evaluation onto schools: your pay progression in this role depends how your managers in your previous role valued your contribution to their school.

Gosh - my line manager made such a big deal of doing performance management for sept to December as I was leaving. He said the new school might want to see it - guess he was right! He took it so seriously..

However I was UPS3 moving to UPS3.

I do think m6-ups1 is two years though - so I'm not sure you're eligible but I guess everybody can apply if they can prove their worth.
