Help changing mindset

I am a Primary teacher of many years. Recently I've been struggling to care as much. I find the children entitled, and unable to retain information, which leaves me extremely frustrated. I've become snappy, and short tempered with behaviour. I'm moving school in September and need to find my mojo again. I want to care, I want to find the 'thing' that makes each child tick.

Can anyone give me questions that I can use to stop and make myself think in those moments of annoyance?

Deep breath, count to ten and think.
Do I need to say anything?
Can I use planned ignoring?
What is this child dealing with?
Am I using 3 or 4 positive statements at least to every negative one?
Would I be happy for my child/ relative to be spoken to like that? ( or for the parent to hear?)
Do some need individual rewards and strategies?
Does the child need a sensory break?
Were my expectations clear?
Am I making good use of visuals for prompts of expectations/ memory aids?
Are there agreed rules and boundaries displayed?
Is there a welcoming accepting environment in my classroom?
Am I differentiating learning or chunking it followed by a reward/ preferred activity?
How can I use humour?

Am I looking after myself, eating, sleeping and relaxing when I can? That one should be your starting point.

New school, fresh start. Well done for recognising that your approach needs to change. A very important first step.
