15 year old needing help with teaching!

Hello! I've been searching everywhere for a place or website that may have teachers I can ask for help from, and I think I may have found it!

I'm a 15-year-old kid who needs to teach a group of Primary school kids about space, and I need help deciding what I should do with them for the next four weeks which would be interesting enough to keep them captivated! I've created a little colouring/drawing sheet for after I've done the main speaking things, but I'm not sure where to go from there!

Any help would be highly appreciated. Thank you!

Not a teacher.

But to help with context:
Why are you doing this? (Duke of Edinburgh?)
How long is each session? 1hr, 3hrs?
Primary is a big age range 5-11, can you narrow it down?

I'd have a theme for each week eg
. The planets - visual aids to see how big and how far apart everything is
. The moon - landing on it, tides and phases of the moon
. Satellites and their uses
. How the universe was made and the fact it is still expanding and the fact looking at stars is like looking back in time
. Constellations and the stories behind them

For each week I would have practical aids/activities and colour / fill in sheets to take away with key info. I'd try to make it relevant to what they can see

I would minimise 'main speaking things'

But as I said. Not a teacher.

Might also depend whether this is a self selecting interested bunch, or just a random class.

Can you give more detail about exactly how old the ch are, and how many?
I think space is generally taught a lot in year 5, so nine/ten year olds?

I would keep the colouring in as a five min plenary at the end of the lesson. It’s nice, sure, but they aren’t learning anything from colouring something in.

Get them to make their own mnemonic for remembering the planets in order, or some poems/rhymes. They can make factfiles/PowerPoints about a chosen planet. They could do talk activities/discussion. Get them to debate whether government money should be spent on space travel. Teach them about female astronauts. Get them to imagine what spending a day on a specific planet would be like. Google of there’s any simple/fun experiments you can do around space/the planets.

Hi would be good to know ages and what you have access to in terms of paper, card, paint etc.t There are lots of free lesson ides/ activities online. Just Google lessons about space for kids. A quick glance shows for example ,NASA, teachstarters, and National Geographic. Teachers tend to head to Twinkl. I think some things are free.

PS. Twinkl does have lesson plans for ks 1 and ks 2. You can also google search using "Earth and Space".
